George W. Bush Offered 'Greeter' Job: Should Former President Bush Take the Job?

Peter Griffin February 23, 2009 20:34:30

Former President Bush is finally taking a break after 8 years if hard working President years. It seems like Bush has nothing to do these days. George Bush visited a hardware store in Dallas, Texas Saturday morning to purchase some light bulbs and WD40. The store owner of Elliot's Hardware offered Former President Bush a store greeter job. The store had published an open letter to Bush, inviting him to apply for a store greeter position. Former President Bush will consider the job position as a greeter sometime in the future. Should Bush take the job?

If it was in a shoe store, he'd be a great greeter.

He'd be a great greeter, but the store would go out of business due to the added security costs of metal detectors and daily sweeps for a 10 mile square radius by the Secret Service, not to mention the pat down search of every customer before they can enter the store and high level security cameras on anything that can be used as a weapon. I bet many customers would also be upset that all fertilizer is stored in a warehouse 10 miles away too.

Beyond these concerns, he'd be great because no matter what he did prior to being President of the United States, that is a notoriety that will bring in customers, if only for their curiosity. I am sure every former president who opens up an office somewhere often has people showing up at the front door just to see them as a regular person.

As he is no longer President, bashing him over this offer from someone else, appears merely an old habit dieing hard. He's gone now, and you can blame him all you want for our situation, I don't, but that's fine either way. Just hope that when your done with whatever you've done in life, that those who found you a problem, are not holding your past against you merely for sake of holding something against you out of habit.

The real question ought to be when did George W. Bush ever really work? He spent more time in Crawford photo opting and clearing brush then he did at the White House. Even there all he did was play crochet on the lawn then go on vacation. He gave less press conferences than anyone in history. Those he did give were stacked by his buddies. Beyond some writers cramp from his dubious signing statements, the heaviest thing he's ever lifted was a wine goblet at a have mores party. He isn't fit to serve cotton candy at a carnival. The bottom line is he won't take this job anyway. He's been well subsidized for running the country into the ground!

He would put the owner out of business within a month. Bush never held a job that didn't go bankrupt. Even as president he has us on our knees and close to lining up at the soup kitchen..

If the owner values his business he will fire Georgie before the man takes the offer seriously.

Yes, He should take the job. He may finally find something he would be successful at. Grew up an acoholic, failed in school and college, was a failure with three oil co. as a governor not to good. Then considered the worst president ever. So maybe he can do the job of a greeter.

No I think it would be embarrassing to have a former president working as a greeter at a store. He doesn’t need to work anyway he gets a retirement pension from the government...

Dubya is extremely personable and would make an excellent greeter, but -- although there's nothing wrong with the noble occupation of store greeter -- I suspect Dubya will find something to do for the next 10 years or so that is even more beneficial for people.

No. Former President Bush should not work anymore.

Maybe he should just rest and play - so many places to go, things to do. Concentrate on his memoirs, a book or two, host some parties with good friends. Start a new hobby or just catch up on things around the ranch, He will have SService and other security protection for a very long time - which precludes 'working' within the pubic sector most likely for the rest of his working years. Right now, he cannot mix and mingle with the public - one on one, due to security issues which inevitably would arise. There are too many nutcases who would do a former president in at the first sniff of let down defense. This is sad, but true. So altho certainly it would give Elliot's the honor and business/notoriety with the curious and loyal supporters coming in from near and far, I rather think it was a gesture of friendly admiration and if he personally could do it - of course any retail business could benefit from his status. But, for his safety the answer is absolutely NO.

He still has his oil company, along with his hmmm other questionable investments. Why should he work, when someone who needs money, just to survive, could have the job? Would he be surrounded by the Secret Service all of the time? Don't really think that's gonna happen.

A greeter no. But, I don't think he should give up working. Going back to ranching would be productive, honest work - if he is up to the physical labor these days.

Bush is too hated to work in public and he would not do this anyway! If I have to hear him speak ever again I will be ill! But, on the other hand, a greeter job would utilize his small vocabulary skills! Ha! Peace is being rid of GWB and all of his friends Forever!
