U.S. President-elect Barack Obama visited the White House on Monday for his first post-election meeting with President George W. Bush. Obama, who will take office on January 20. According to Obama, Bush seems like a germophobic, neat-freak. After meeting with Bush and finally meeting at the oval office, the two men shook hands and then, according to Obama, Bush turned to an aide, "who squirted a big dollop of hand sanitizer in the president's hand." Bush then offered some to Obama, who recalled: "Not wanting to seem unhygienic, I took a squirt."

After the two men met privately in the Oval Office for over an hour in talks about global crisis and war, the duo didn't discuss anything regarding Obama attacking Bush pointing out his "failed policies."

I am a Nurse and I use hand sanatizer every time I touch someone. I don't see the issue here. It seems to be a very responsible thing to do in this day and age.

Obama had been travelling much for the campaigning, and Bush has been living a relatively secluded life (ie. Obama has been exposed to much more than Bush in the last month or so).

Your president elect is mixed...he is black and white and muslim...raised by his white family...get over yourself. He was elected to office because both white and black people voted for him. It was not one sided.

Spend your time taking credit for something useful "you" did with your life to help others. Don't pat yourself on the back riding on someone else's coattails.

Practical. President Bush offered some hand-sanitizer to Senator Obama. This is the way people in their position stay alive. There are some really wicked viruses out there; last year people were coughing-up blood for months. This topic is just sensational, and I don't mean that as a synonym for "fabulous"!

The Bush family is not racist. Presidents Bush I and II have worked very closely with their many high-powered "black" appointees--by that I mean people they have chosen to work in their administrations. Been living under a rock or something, muck-raking Bush-Haters?

I am tired of petty attempts at painting Republicans with a broad brush.

It's probably just a sanitation issue. I carry hand sanitizer with me everywhere I go. My baby carries a bottle in his diaper bag, and has some specially in his room. So no, I don't think it's anything more than the season, and just a cleanliness thing. Who wants to get sick? Let's not go borrowing more trivial things for Bush. I'm all for Obama, but I'm not taking the 'let's pick on Bush' route. :)

I don't believe Bush is a racist. He might like a group of ppl over another but thats a different conversation. In regards to this question my answer is no. While he won't be accused of splitting atoms in the near or distant future I just think the man was taking precautions. It is cold & flu season. He's guilty of many things. maybe he just didn't want to spread germs. this is the flu season. i use it all the time in these winter months to help stop the spread of germs. if he didn't us sanitizer then everyone would be saying it was bush's falt that obama got sick, that is if he did.

I would like to see the whitehouse sanitized after bush gets on air force one back to crawford texas. There has been so much bull, lies and corruption there in the last 8 yrs. it needs disinfecting. Bringing in a priest, minister, preacher etc. wouldn't be a bad idea either.
