General Motors Ranked 5th on Forbes 500... Thank you Obama, or we should have let them go under?

Met 2012/05/07 17:13:46
Good job Obama, you got one right!
We should have let these Americans lose their jobs, then blamed Obama. (cuz you know that's what would have happened)
You!

I'm not a big fan of GM. I hate Chevy, and can't stand Cadillacs, but their turnaround has been nothing short of Miraculous, given how close they were to going under just 3 years ago.

After Obama Approved a capitalist loan to bail out the troubled American Auto Manufacturer, GM is not only repaying the loan with interest, but kicking ass as a corporation again, getting honored by making the 5 spot on the Forbes 500.

Thank you Obama, or just jobs we should have let go?

Unemployment would be even worse if the car industry had collapsed. No doubt Obama would be blamed for it.

If the government had stayed out of the car industry, GM would have filed chapter 11, been restructured, probably without the unions, and then proceeded to manufacture cars, at a reduced cost, without the coliapse of the car industry, just as Ford did not collapase without federal bailout..

GM was restructured, is building better cars, and is selling well (including abroad).
Going through bankruptcy might have slowed this success down, so the buying of their shares by govt. has worked well. Their shares are now higher and the govt. can sell them at a profit. Money made for the taxpayer and jobs saved throughout the whole industry and its supporting industries.

So you are saying that the share holders (original owners) are the only ones that lost on the bailout.

That's one of many he was right on. After the Teas Party loses it's influence in the legislature in 2012, Obama can complete the job of bringing the USA in to the 21st century.

IMO, saving over 1 million jobs of those who now pay taxes instead of being statistics on the unemployment roles contributes to our economy. About the bailout - nothing is as simple as it seem. Accurate info at: http://www.dailyfinance.com/2...

The problem is the shareholders lost o the deal and the unions won. The stock was siezed and put in the hands of the "backers" of Obama's plan. GM should have had to go to court to restructure. If that happened, all the union contracts would have been voided and then renegotiated. Obama made sure he would have union support on everything he did.

there was never any risk of that.

GM and Chrysler weren't going out of business. they were going bankrupt. there is a huge difference.

Not in this instance. Banks were not lending to anyone at the time. NO bank would have lent them the funding needed to keep them open.

and for that, a much smaller bridge loan, just for liquidity, would have sufficed.

a cash flow crunch is far different than requiring a Chapter 7 liquidation.

LOL, Aren't you the smartest one on the blog. Reality is liberal, that GM could have operated under bankrupcy court supervision. Difference being, GM would not been able to tell American workers to fu-- off, because they would not have been granted the money to build new plants in China and India. Now you Liberals, LOL claim that Obama saved GM, but what Obama did was make the Union bosses rich with part control of the company, while union members are still out of work, or underemployed, while Asians got their jobs. You should be outraged you nasty liberal.

I agree, I'll never own another Chevrolet, but this move saved jobs and a Company from going down the tubes.. the cash for clunkers thing I believe boosted our business by 45% in less than one year, after contracting for parts and accessories off some very old cars of at least 25 to 30-yrs of age.

Maybe it was a joke, but here in the Kansas City area it netted the Automotive Businesses over $127,000.00 million dollars in some 6-weeks according to NAPDA and AAA and cities above 200,000 in population it was about the same results, that meant locally it helped save 160-jobs within Auto-Dealers and Parts suppliers..
in as much since I'm working in the Automotive business, myself and the Company couldn't be happier this came to pass. And we laughed at the joke all the way to the bank.
