Gay Marriage Legal In DC: Equal Rights At The End Of The Rainbow?

Grace W. Bush 2010/03/02 23:59:58
Yes, the rest of the US will eventually follow DC and legalize same-sex marriage.
No, I cannot see the rest of the states recognizing gay marriage any time soon.
I think same-sex marriage...

A Washington DC gay marriage law will go into effect this week. The law is part of the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Equality Amendment Act, which extends the rights of marriage to be applied to same-sex couples. Gay couples can apply for marriage licenses starting Wednesday, March 3rd of 2010, however not all DC residents are behind this.

Chief Justice John Roberts issued a three-page order declaring that local matters should be handled by the locals. He is pushing for a ballot initiative that would give power to overturn the law to the residents.

Still, same-sex marriage has only been growing in the last decade. Washington DC joins Vermont, Connecticut, Iowa, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts in extending marriage rights to same-sex couples. Is it only a matter of time before the whole United States recognizes gay marriage?

You go off of your opinion. There are plenty of gay parents out there with their OWN children (not adopting) and their kids couldn't be happier with their life and their two dads or two mommies. Not everyone thinks like you.

I just gave my opinion, what about you? Do you agree for their rights?
Tell me what would the childrens be in future with their real parents if a child see his father with his partner and not with a female... Wait a sec, I have another point, the man is the power and the taugh always, suddenly he becomes walking on four like a dog, all the mantality and the power is gone... Most of The childrens will become like their parents...

Most children do not become like their parents. There are plenty of parents that drink and smoke all the time an their kids don't do that. Its all about what people want. If you don't want to become a drunk then you won't drink. Its plain and simple. If they dont want to be gay they won't be gay.

I hope so being a person born with the trait of homosexuality, I think it's only fair that I be allowed to marry the person that I love. Also, i hope one day it won't be legal in my state to discriminate against me on housing and employment. Afterall, I never chose to be gay in the first place. Bigots are sick

It is immoral, illogical, and inhumane to let governments preside over marriages and interpersonal contracts. There are many ways to say this, but the bottom line is this: Nobody should get to vote on who gets to contract with whom. Does that make sense? Am I the only one who gets this?

I think that the government should get out of the marriage business completely. But since it seems to want to interfere, it should interfere equally for everyone.

If people are allowed to complain and vote against gay marriage, they I think we should be able to vote against other kinds of couples marrying. For example, bigots. I think they should not be able to get married. Also, people who have plastic surgery to make themselve look like cats. Others who shouldn't marry: people who make fun of being educated, people who make fun of not being educated, people who think snakes make good pets, and people whose favorite color is in the light green part of the spectrum. Sound ludicrous? It is. Of course nobody should be allowed to comment on, let alone vote on, somebody else's marriage.

As long as self righteous relligonists exist i doubt the entire USA would make it legal.

However anyone opposed to gay marriage should have thier own marriage anulled(if they are married)

  • Curious... bob 2010/03/03 08:59:23
    Curious George
drinking problems, and prescription addicts are nothing in comparison to smoking crack cocaine. plus he was the mayor of dc going on tv telling kids to "just say no to drugs" while at the same time he was smoking it with hookers in hotel rooms after work. he got busted while in office!!!! then they re-elect the lying crack head. you can't have a dumber more racist (most voters were black and only elected him because he was the only black candidate) electorate in america than washington d.c.. bob if you are not aware of this than you are just another stupid political correctness twit. for christ sake, they chose to elect a crack head!!!!!!! imagine how stupid his opponet must have felt losing to a crack head.

No there is no differance to me between an alcoholic and a crack head.

then you have never seen a crack head in real life, or know a functional alcoholic. you say there is no difference between an alcoholic and a crack head? ware do you live, in stupidvile? i have lived in southern california my whole life and have watched friends and loved ones destroy there lives over heroine, meth, cocaine, and crack. However i have never heard of a chick selling there ass or a dude sucking dick for a bottle of vodka. BOB you are now officially the stupidiest member of sodahead! btw did you vote for mayion barry or something?

Well seeing as that i am not american or live in america i would not be able to vote for Mayion barry, whoever that is(i have heard of a Marion Berry). I declare you the most stupid (stupidest is not a word dumbass) person of SH for thinking that i can vote for an amercain politician when i live in Norway and am not an american.
Yes i do know crackhead's and i know alcoholics i happen to do volenteer work at homeless shelters in Oslo(Norway) where i live.
I can tell you that no i do not see a differance between a crackhead and a alcoholic i have seen both do very obscure acts to get thier next high.
  • Curious... bob 2010/03/03 18:10:53 (edited)
    Curious George
now bob would you ever vote for a crack head who was already busted while in office during his first term, to be mayor of a major city in norway? if you would than you are still the stupidest person on sodahead (dam i love that word) and i don't care how much time you spend in a shelter. being a crack head is worse than being a alcoholic. btw i have been to AA meetings with my dad (life time functional alcoholic) and the people in those meetings usually have no self control regardless of the drug they like. hell now my dad is better of just drinking a little bit now than when he was on the wagon and MISERABLE going to AA meeting everyday. most crack heads never end up in NA meeting, they usually end up in jail or die a young and violent death. btw do think i actually check who lives where in the world every time i leave a comment? hell no. i don't give a dam ware you live. you still cant justify voting for a crack head to be mayor of a major city.
  • bob Curious... 2010/03/03 18:23:56
    bob
No Curious george i would not vote for a crack head. I tend not to vote at all since its all a big farce. The political parties come out of congress for a couple of months spew alot of BS One of them gets elected based on all the lies it has just been spewing for the past few months. Then they all retreat into congress again, seem to forget everything they have been yelling from thier podiums for the past few months and everything pretty much remains the same.

Im sure that "being" a crackhead is worse then "being" a alcoholic but when comparing the two i do not see much differance they both made a bad choice at some point in thier lifes which led them both to being reliant on a drug and without help they are both doomed. The reason why most crackheads never end up in a AA type meeting is because they are doing something illegal as opposed to the alcoholic. If they seek help they end up getting thrown in jail if alcohol was illegal the alcoholic would also not be going to any AA meeting he would be thrown in jail alongside the crackhead.
This is why drugs like that needs to be decriminalized and instead of throwing them in jail actualy try to help them. The government does not want to change this because they need something to scare the middle class with. "Be a good citizen don't do drugs (but buy these nicotine death sticks and drink your self into a coma every weekend) or youll end up like that crackhead on the street there".
  • Curious... bob 2010/03/03 18:36:52
    Curious George
any crackhead can go to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting to try to get better and no one will be turned into the cops. i don't know how drugs are treated in norway, but in california the violence that stems from the drug trade is insane and the cartel drug wars in mexico are starting to spill over the boarder. decriminalizing crack would only help crack sales and the drug cartels. crack is way to dangerous to be compared to alcohol the way you do. weed is the only illegal drug that should be legalized. btw you still proved my original point correct in that washington d.c. has the dumbest and most racist electorate in the U.S.A. by electing a known crack head to be mayor. therefore you can't angle anything they vote on in a positive light.
  • bob Curious... 2010/03/03 18:41:38 (edited)
    bob
I never said you were not correct i was just asking for the relevance since most of your presidentes were either alcoholics or drug abusers or both.

Besides it is wrong to say "you can't angle anything they vote on in a positive light." Since most political votings are unfortuantly not run by the people anymore.

Also a crackhead is someone that is addicted to crack just lighting up once on occasion is not an addiction therefor not a crackhead :P
So please show me the proof that he was/is addicted to crack in order for him to be a crackhead. Otherwise you could call everyone that drinks occasionaly an alcoholic.
  • Russ Curious... 2010/03/03 13:11:44
    Russ
You dont know many alcoholics do you. Go to an AA meeting sometime, and they'll tell you how it ruined there lives - and these are the ones that are getting help. Imagine the ones that are still addicted.
  • Curious... Russ 2010/03/03 18:18:22
    Curious George
AA is for quitters. yes i have a friend who drank himself to death by killing is liver at the age of 35. still that is only one out of dozens of my friends who drink every day. now crack on the other hand would destroy almost every one of my friends lives if the started smoking crack. russ you are just as stupid as bob to think that being a alcoholic is as bad as being a crackhead. last time i checked alcohol was not a controlled substance, but crack cocaine is for a reason. it ruins the lives of addicts very fast, and very effectively. alcohol on the other hand takes a long time to ruin a life and most people who do drink can handle it without a hitch.
