I am from Michigan as well. Remember we got rid of the Dems and hired Rick Snyder REPUBLICAN almost 2 years ago now. And all the climbing you see is not what Obama has done for anyone.

so enlighten me what has obama done with 15 trillion dollars im kinda confused...
and please dont say health care cause even tho with his program he had to open up 13,000 IRS agents alone to help moderate the system yet un employment is higher than the bush admin...

Well, I'm not as politically versed as you, but i can say that I live in Michigan, which was one of the hardest hit by the economic downturn, and i have seen things changing for the better. More people are working and also hiring. During the recession, my place of employment had a hiring freeze, which is now lifted. Things are getting better. They're not perfect, but on the upswing. You can't fill in the hole that was left four years ago overnight. My amazement is that he has managed to accomplish anything with Republicans fighting everthing.

Because they can't fault obama for the rising gas prices. He has no control over them and how they set prices from speculators and other issues i.e. plant shut downs, unrest in the mid east etc.

If the president can control the prices they would have done so even back in the 70's when we had the "major" shortage that was made up to look like we were running out of oil.

There was one scientist who made a comment back then that we would run out of oil by the year 2000.

Politicians -- especially conservative ones are playing to a certain uninformed audience. They count on people not checking the facts. Speeches are not meant to contain truth but rather evoke a feeling. They want you to blame the other guy for all you troubles. They want the power and the job so bad that don't care that what they are saying is truth of not. Ryan can smell success in his future and with success comes wealth and power for a politician. As poor consumers of all this mendacity we must sort out the truth for ourselves.

actually you need to replace conservative with liberal on that one.
Conservatives are actually more informed, since we don't just listen to the talking heads of either side, and most of us actually verify the information presented.
Please don't ever let facts get in the way of your ignorance.
almost all of obama's speeches have had nothing substantive in them and only have vague touchy feely stuff.
if you bother to listen to them with an analytical ear, most are just fluff.
Or the tired old blame the last president. Or blame the rich for not paying their fair share, even though there are more "poor" people that have no skin in the game at all.

sorry the current situation in the u.s. stops with the man in charge.

he comes out and lambasts police for arresting a "black" professor, before he had any facts regarding it.
now please show me one thing this president has done that has actually helped this country?
sorry haven't seen one executive order, or one piece of legislation he signed that helped the country.
and don't even think about saying obama care. If you actually read that monster(9k pages estimated, at the last count, 6k of it by unelected bureaucrats, and the more that it goes forward the worse it gets.)
So what really has obama done over the last four years?

oh yeah, just like democrats and liberals.
Both democrats and republicans both lie to get elected, or over state what they think they can do.
That's the problem with this b.s. of a two party system.
we need more people running for these offices.
heck been times i've been more inclined to vote for ralph nader(god help me), instead of the people that the 2 party system puts up.

The biggest problem is that we have it in our heads that there are only two parties.
the media only covers that two parties, even when we have multiple parties actually running for office.
They help propagate this lunacy that we only have two parties.
nothing in our constitution limits us to two parties. people are the ones that are limiting that aspect of our government.

At this point in September 2012, Obama has been president for 43 months. If we compare Obama’s first 43 months in office to Bush’s first 43 months in office, you will find that Obama has still been awful in comparison. At this same point during Bush’s first term, in September of 2004, gasoline cost $1.89 a gallon. Versus with Obama and gas prices of $3.82 a gallon today.

we compare gas prices due to the media's daily reports of gas price rises during bush, and nothing in the media under obama.

And what has that got to do with the price of apples? Gasoline is a commodity on the world market. All the oil produced goes into the world supply and the demand determines the price. China is now demanding more and more of the oil supply and so are other developing countries. Presidents have no control over the price of oil. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico lost millions of gallons of oil which made the price rise. Recently a refinery that turns oil into gasoline was out of commission which drove up the price for Americans because the supply was less than the demand. If you thin a President can magically wave a wand and determine the price we all pay for gasoline then you have no understanding of capitalism and the free global market.
As a side bar. The pipe line that they want to build through the US from Canada is to send the oil to refineries in Texas so that it can be put directly on boats for other shores. We take the risk and the oil cartels take the profit. Americans seem to think that producing oil here in America will be their oil and make them independent of foreign oil. Not true, the oil will be added to the world supply which will for a short time reduce the over demand. However, as more and more people around the world buy cars and need gasoline and fuel that bump will not last long.

That picture that is the top comment doesn't really prove anything. Look how much it rose while Bush was president. He couldn't be elected again in 2008 but you don't think it is a coincidence that it declined as it was time to start thinking about who to vote in for president? Someone like Bush or someone different from him? After 9/11 it was on the rise, then around his re-election it stayed pretty steady then as soon as he was re-elected it rose dramatically?

So do I. I was in college in the spring of 2008 & before class we were discussing how gas prices were going to hit $4 (it was supposed to happen that weekend, but did wait a couple weeks.) One of the girls joked that she was going to get an electric scooter, then we said we all should (& joked that everyone would see us coming.)
Spring 2008 - I'm pretty sure that was during Bush's term.

People don't remember when it hit $4.00+ how it triggered the reality of the recession on the streets followed by food increases and so on. They also don't speak of the legislation that Obama has been trying to advance bringing to account and regulating the gas futures trading oil which gas is priced from world wide. Repubs won't support or advance.. Now ask me again who i feel is responsible for higher gas prices.

OK, the "splitting hairs" on the blame game is KILLING ME in the thread. Libs proposed that Bush created higher gas prices, Cons propose Obama is now. Gas is now back on a downward trend. If you gave Bush a pass on gas prices, LEAVE OBAMA ALONE on this issue as well. It went up.. it's coming back down. As a matter of fact it spiked higher under bush so shaddup.
