CNBC recently published an article called "Gadgets for the 'One Percent'" spotlighting some of the most extravagant, ornate, and exquisite items in the tech world, from a $2,800 pair of leather-and-wood sound-isolating headphones from Ultrasone to a $2 million personal submarine from Hammacher Schlemmer.

Some of these items are expensive for the sake of being expensive, like a $1 million Luvaglio laptop that can only be unlocked with a fitted diamond.

On the more practical end -- key word "more" -- is the $8,400 Samsung SUR40, a touchscreen desktop computer that's actually a desktop. Or how about the 60 megapixel Hasselblad H4D camera, or the $58,000 Red Epic-M video camera that can shoot at 96 frames per second.

There's even a $10,700 Vertu Signature cell phone that comes with an OnStar-esque "concierge service" and ringtones played by the London Symphony Orchestra. So, we've got to ask: which item is the most ridiculous of them all?

I would love a personal submarine, and I could do crazy stuff with it . With a 1 million dollar laptop all I can do is go on soda and get insulted for having different views.

Well a table could be broken easily and all that I mean what if someone didn't know you had a touch sceen table and put a cup on it and the cup tipped over? That would suck.

What a ridiculous thing. Here, we have 4 wheelers and go carts for leisure vehicles. I can see it now, two rich as hell snob kids fighting over who gets to go first. When do the Obama kids get one courtesy of the taxpayer's?

The most ridiculious thing here is wasting money on any of it.

yes wasting - anything that could have been given to the government instead is a "waste" just as poverty is a goal to aspire to and GREED is what has held America back all its history ...if Only the founding fathers had listened to Ben and made ALL property belong to the state , what a wonderful socialist country this would have been ....and I am sure we would all be RICH ...O no wait I forgot "rich is evil" ...then we would all be POOR and that is some how good ....?

Give to the government so they can give it away overseas. While a bridge i crossed downtown has 2 lanes closed because of the holes in it. Now that's waste.

I for one love rich people - when they have money I can get my hands on it by offering goods and services to them . Once that money gets into the hands of government it is lost forever ! LOL

Of course they aren't thinking about me, or you, but Are thinking about showing off for their rich friends--hence, the "I can do this and you can't" comment. Competition amongst the top 10% is what I was getting at.

The others seem to encourage useful technology more. The table however is pretty much just a show off item rather than something that can fit a hobby or talent or job etc.
