Lt. Gen. Robert Cone: Fort Hood Shooting Suspect is Alive and in Custody!!
The gunman was wounded multiple times at the scene but was captured alive and was in stable condition, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone, commanding general of the Army’s III Corps, said at a press conference late Thursday.
-----------------------------------------------
Two other soldiers who were detained have been released, but another person of interest is in custody, said Christopher Haug, chief of public affairs at Fort Hood.
-----------------------------------------------
An Army spokesman in Washington says the first shooting began about 1:30 p.m. at a personnel and medical processing center at Fort Hood, the largest U.S. military installation in the world. He says the second incident took place at a theater on the base.

Cone says that all the casualties took place at the base's Soldier Readiness Center where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening.

He says the shooter used two handguns in the attack.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison says the Army major accused of the shooting at Fort Hood was about to deploy overseas. But it was unclear if he was headed to Iraq or Afghanistan and exactly when he was scheduled to leave.

Officials say Hasan was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to the Texas base in July.

Military officials say the suspected shooter at Fort Hood was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to the Texas base in July, where he was preparing to deploy to Iraq later this month.

The officials had access to Maj. Nidal Malik Hassan’s military record. They said he received a poor performance evaluation while at Walter Reed.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because military records are confidential.

The Virginia-born soldier was single with no children. He was 39 years old.

He was a graduate of Virginia Tech University, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in 1997. He received his medical degree from the military’s Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001. At Walter Reed, he did his internship, residency and a fellowship.

The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Nadal Malik Hasan, who is psychologist or a psychiatrist.

He was promoted to major status in May, according to the Army Times.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, told Fox News that military sources informed her that the gunman was about to be deployed to Iraq.

The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.

Hasan allegedly opened fire and killed 11 people on the base before he was shot dead, bringing the total number of fatalities to 12.

    This is just so awful!

My prayers and thoughts are with them.

Edit: I changed my response because I feel I offended some people with my thoughts.
I never meant to hurt anyone.

    Here's a little known fact.

Most mental health professionals go into that line of work to solve their own problems. They are not always successful. But then his time in the mosque may have added something to that.
