President Obama denied issuing Purple Hearts to the wounded military personnel of the Fort Hood terrorist attack because he classified the attack as "workplace violence" instead of "combat related." This decision also denies other financial benefits to the wounded victims and the families of the deceased. Maj. Nidal Hasan served as a member of the U.S. military when he committed the Jihad attack on November 2009 attack at Fort Hood in Texas. The attack left 32 wounded and 13 adults and an unborn baby dead.
The victims of the attack have protested that President Obama has denied them proper benefits and recognition as victims of an attack.
"These guys play stupid every time they’re asked a question about it, they pretend like they have no clue,” said Shawn Manning, who was shot six times that day at Fort Hood. Two of the bullets remain in his leg and spine, he said.
“It was no different than an insurgent in Iraq or Afghanistan trying to kill us,” said Manning, who was twice deployed to Iraq and had to retire from the military because of his injuries.

The criteria for the Purple Heart award state that the injury must have been caused by enemy action or in action against the enemy and has to be of a degree requiring treatment by a medical officer.
Wikipedia defines Purple Heart criteria:
The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Services after April 5, 1917, has been wounded or killed...
Injuries or wounds which do not qualify for award of the Purple Heart include frostbite or trench foot injuries; heat stroke; food poisoning not caused by enemy agents; chemical, biological, or nuclear agents not released by the enemy; battle fatigue; disease not directly caused by enemy agents; accidents, to include explosive, aircraft, vehicular, and other accidental wounding not related to or caused by enemy action; self-inflicted wounds (e.g., a soldier accidentally fires their own gun and the bullet strikes his or her leg), except when in the heat of battle, and not involving gross negligence; post-traumatic stress disorders;[7] and jump injuries not caused by enemy action.

Enemy it is.
I believe they deserve benefits and compensation but I dont think that should fall under the Purple Heart. There really needs to be another classification for victims like those at Ft. Hood.
"The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Services after April 5, 1917, has been wounded or killed. Specific examples of services which warrant the Purple Heart include any action against an enemy of the United States; any action with an opposing armed force of a foreign country in which the Armed Forces of the United States are or have been engaged; while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party; as a result of an act of any such enemy of opposing armed forces; or as the result of an act of any hostile foreign force."

2006: "the war on terror is not over". President G.W. Bush
2010: "We will always seek to delegitimise the use of terrorism and to isolate those who carry it out. Yet this is not a global war against a tactic – terrorism – or a religion – Islam.
"We are at war with a specific network, al-Qaeda, and its terrorist affiliates who support efforts to attack the United States, our allies, and partners." President B.H. Obama
Sounds to me like it is deserved.
