Former thieves say newspaper’s “gun map” would’ve made their jobs easier. Should those gun owners file a class action lawsuit against the newspaper?

    I think it puts the non-gun owners in a worse spot. A smart gun owner has their guns locked in a safe not laying around waiting to be stolen and the list of gun owners lets criminals know who's not going to be armed. If anyone should sue the newspaper it should be the ones without guns.

    The urinal news should be charged with reckless endangerment and depraved indifference. I'd probably contribute to that suit just to hold them accountable for their actions.

    I get accused of being too left of center sometimes (but also get accused by the left of being too conservative), but I find it outrageous that a newspaper would publish something like that. First, it allows criminals to target houses with guns TO steal, but also allows them to target the rest as houses without guns as easier. Both gun owners and those without should be outraged by the newspaper publishing that map.

    A lawsuit should by filed, but by the non-gun owners. The map showing who DOESN'T own a gun puts those people at more risk of a violent crime.

    It might be public information, but like ANY knowledge, it IS WHAT YOU DO with it that matters! This goes beyond the pale. The authors need to have their addresses and assets published!

    The press in this country enjoys far greater latitude than the average citizen. They're supposed to be 'guardians of the public conscience' or some such. Traditionally, bringing them to litigious account for their criminal negligence/reckless endangerment has been damned near impossible. The only way to get them is on libel charges, and as far as I know they didn't lie.

    Point being, if you want them to 'pay,' lawsuits are a waste of time.
