1. Romney carefully vetted all his candidates for running mate, in stark contrast to McCain's example. Ryan won't outshine the top of the ticket and is unlikely to go rogue.
2. Ryan will energize the base by bringing undisputable conservative credentials for Tea Partiers who don't fully trust Romney.
3. Ryan plants the ticket solidly on the right because, unlike Romney, he has strong conservative creds on guns, abortion, health care reform, warrantless wiretaps, gay rights.
4. He's a budget policy wonk who can help Romney keep the focus on the economy and the need to cut entitlements and eliminate government programs. Romney has called the Ryan budget plan "marvelous."
5. Ryan brings two decades of Washington Insider and legislative experience that Romney lacks.
6. He has a base in the House GOP caucus's younger and more conservative members who dominate that body.
7. He is intelligent, articulate, energetic, personable and a good debater
8. He is strong where Romney is weak – details. He will focus the debate on spending priorities.
Several months is enough time that if THEY chose to really tank the economy, Romney would need to do nothing, to win. All he would need to do is wake up on the day of election.
I don't understand what that has to do with my post? Many ponies vote against the other guy. Romney will win, because THEY want him to. You've got half the puzzle, please, take the other half. See what they are doing, and how they are using the left-right paradigm to do it.
I agree. I know a lot of people that were leary of Romney as not being Conservative enough. I believe the Ryan pick will get many of them enthusiastic about supporting the Rebulican ticket. I supported Romney anyway, but I feel even better about my choice now.
Not even close. That is a myth. Obama is a die hard socialist and Romney may not be a die conservative he is far far closer to it than Obama. I urge you to go to the Romney site and then the obama site. Pick any topic (say energy) then compare the two. There is a very stark and decisive difference between the two.
I have. But here is the thing, I don't trust what politicians SAY. I look at what they have done. And Romney's record (even without the healthcare act) is almost identical.
Pro-Cap and trade, Pro-abortion, pro-illegal immigration, (He also refused to condemn Obama's immigration actions), Pro-bailouts, Neoconservative foreign policy,
Just to name a few small similarities. I wouldn't have said it, if I hadn't done the research first.
I could go down that list subject by subject and we would find both agreement and disagreement. Some I find to generalized like pro-abortion. He stated only in cases where the mothers life was in danger, incest, or rape. We could argue the semantics for weeks. The truth is that Romney was not my first or even second choice but he who is running. As I said before; come January it will either be Romney or Obama in the White House. What Romney will do is create an economic boom in this country that will keep us from a total financial collapse. Obama will lead us over that cliff within a year of two. This is not a fear tactic, it is a reality. The country as we know it will be gone forever. So the question is; do you want to risk Obama being the one to win this election. If he does you will never have a chance to get that America you want. That option will be gone forever. If Romney wins you can fight that battle another day.
You have far to little faith in the resilience of Amareica. We are the nation the defeated the greatest Empire in the world with torches and pitchforks, wrote the greatest governing document in the history of a nation, won a war that divided the nation with minimal negative impact, ended slavery, fought three civil rights battles that ended in equal voting rights for stallions and mare, of all race, religion and ethnicity, survived for almost 100 years with the most despicable institution ever established on this earth (the federal reserve) won WW1, survived and came out of the great depression and the new deal and the great society and the new frontier and the war on poverty, provided 70% of the war materials for and won the 2nd world war against one of the greatest threats to freedom and humanity known to mankind (Hitler), out lasted another (USSR), landed a stallion on the moon and machines on Mars, created the A-bomb and the H-bomb, conquered a continent, led the industrial revolution and became the most powerful nation on earth, in 200 years. Obama is neither evil enough nor competent enough to destroy us. Don't give him that much credit.
Now, with regards to Romney creating an economic boom. No, government cannot create jobs or economic booms without leading to recession...

Now, with regards to Romney creating an economic boom. No, government cannot create jobs or economic booms without leading to recessions such as the one we just saw. How did that happen? Not by deregulation, but by government economic climate that encouraged and in some cases forced bad decisions, reduced culpability for actions, over inflated the housing market, and destroyed the dollar's value. Romney won't end the subsidies, which encourage booms like the housing boom and lead inevitably to busts like the one we just saw, he won't flatten the tax system, he won't protect religious liberties like that of marriage that should be provided to everypony, he won't end terrible environmental policies of the Obama administration, he believes in "self-deportation," which even I think is stupid, and I support amnesty, he won't end property taxes, which is a form of slavery and prevents the existence of actual private property, he won't fight the federal reserve to protect the value of our currency, and he will send us to war with Iran just like Obama. I simply don't see Romney doing anything I support anymore than Obama is.
I disagree with you on so much of what you posted. I will never change your mind or convince you that a vote for Paul in a no vote. We will just have agree to disagree.
Who said anything about Paul? Your post has nothing to do with if you will convince me, it is entirely because you have nothing to support you opinion. My positions come from well reasoned, logical and cognitively coherent arguments, based on facts and rational common sense. I am more than willing to change my mind on different issues, and have on several occasions. So convince me. Explain to me why Romney won't vote with his record, which is identical to Obama's. Explain to me why Romney is any better than Obama, and you can't say Obama is or will destroy America. Appeal to the rational objectivist in me.
Sorry. I have been having this almost identical conversation with a Paul supporter all day. Forgot who I was talking to for a second. Just getting tired. Let me go over what you posted above and I will continue this with you tomorrow, or I should say later today. But for now I have to get some sleep. I have to be to work in 3 1/2 hours. I am enjoying the debate.
