In the announcement on its Facebook page, The Dove World Outreach Center of Gainesville, Florida, asked other religious groups to join in standing "against the evil of Islam. Islam is of the devil!"

The Facebook event has received more than 1,500 "Like" recommendations by users, but had also been attacked with a number of threatening messages posted on the page and corresponding anti-Islam rants.

The church's pastor, Terry Jones - who has written a book titled "Islam is of The Devil" and sells T-shirts bearing the same message - defended the controversial event

"Islam and Sharia law was responsible for 9/11," Jones told Agence France-Presse.

Muslims have never held burning Bible ceremonies nor burning Torah ceremonies. These racist nut jobs are such hypocrites.

"And We sent after them in their footsteps Jesus, son of Mary, verifying that which was before him of the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel containing guidance and light, and verifying that which was before it of the Torah, and a guidance and an admonition for the dutiful." - HOLY QUR'AN 5:46

The 9/11 attackers were Godless, heartless, murderous athiests who exploited religion to do evil. No different than Hitler.

I think that this work is stupid. Because if that pastor patient psychologically to burn the Koran will not save me but hatred and that we will be accused of Kamriken reactionaries and extremists from the Middle Ages and with distinction. We will be the laughingstock of the whole world

They have the right to burn it. Whether or not this is a wise thing to do is a different question. It does not seem like a good idea to me. This church believes that Islam is evil, ok... but, what does burning the Koran accomplish?

“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.” - Lewis Sinclair

I thought fascism would be coming from the socialism of the democrats, but it will be a two-sided assault on freedom & intelligence... right-wing bitches acting like Nazis want some of the Fascism action too.

God is more than a book that is pushed like Amway to get sales! Religion has us all acting like crackheaded idiots.

Can the "rapture" please come and take away the radical christians/jews/muslims & leave us SANE PEOPLE alone??

Burning books are for Nazis, not Christians!!

When did church leaders begin to think that burning book as a form of protest is a godly act? Hmmm.... Oh, wait... they used to burn people too. Aren't church leaders supposed to be setting an example?

It's a disgusting act, and it is the same kind of thinking and ideology that has the Arabs and the Jews at each other's throats. Muslims HAVE descecrated all manner of religious icons both in the past and in the present (when the Taliban destroyed the Buddhist statues) in Afghanistan. The whole of Islam was a war against all others when Muhammad forced Buddhists, Christians and Jews to either convert to Islam or to pay taxes. Many could not pay taxes and thus had to convert. The whole of Malaysia was converted to Islam in the same manner.

Yet, a burning of the Koran ceremony is just so disgusting and it is probably anti-constitutional in that it will incite incredible anger within the community and as such is a violation. What Baptists and evangelical's are doing now in this church is exactly what the Taliban does and what other fundamentalist religious groups are doing, whether they are Christian, Mulsims, or Jewish, and their actions should be condemned.
