Florence AZ student suspended over picture of gun - insane?

FLORENCE, AZ - A high school student in Florence said he has been suspended because of a picture of a gun.

Daniel McClaine Jr., a freshman at Poston Butte High School, said he saved the picture as his desktop background on his school-issued computer.

A teacher noticed it and turned him in.

The picture shows an AK-47 on top of a flag.

McClaine said the school initially suspended him for three days Friday.

Since the laptop belongs to the school, the district policy states students are prohibited from “sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures,” and cannot access, send, create or forward pictures that are considered “harassing, threatening, or illegal.”

McClaine said he read the guidelines but does not consider the picture threatening to anyone.

“This gun wallpaper does not show anything that’s violent. It's not showing anybody getting shot in any way. It's just a picture of a gun. It's nothing -- nobody getting shot, nobody getting it pointed at them, it's nothing,” said McClaine.

McClaine said the gun is not his. He’s interested in joining the military and said he found it on the internet.

It's a photograph of a piece of equipment.
Pretty stupid since in Arizona you can walk damned near anywhere with an open or concealed carry firearm (like I am NOW).

The world has gone mad. Really and truly. That teacher showed poor judgment by making mountains out of molehills but being the case that many teachers are liberal it doesn't surprise me she'd be this foolish and jump the gun herself over this issue.

I have a feeling there is probably more to this story.

That being said...

If the teacher felt that the image was offensive/threatening the student should have just been asked to remove it. Pehaps along with a lecture of being sensitive towards others.

Complete and total insanity. Every school and school board in this country needs to be revamped. ALL the leftist idiots need to be removed and only people with some shred of common sense should be allowed to remain. We'd probably have less than 20% of the original number remaining.

Maybe a few years ago it would have seemed insane but given today's environment and following Sandy Hook, the kid probably should have put something else on his desk top. People are quite hypersensitive about guns right now.
