Filipinos Get Nailed: Are They Making A Mockery Of Jesus?

Devout Filipinos nailed themselves to crosses in remembrance of Jesus' death this Good Friday. It's an annual tradition in the Philippines, and this year at least 23 people participated despite the Roman Catholic Church's disapproval. Foreigners, who were able to take part in the past, were banned this year except as spectators because some were making a mockery out of the rite.
Of the 90 million population, 80 percent are Roman Catholic. Those that were crucified say that they do it out of reverence for the great things that God has done in their lives. Catholic leaders reject this and say that the real expression of Christian faith is through repentance and self-renewal and that the tradition is superstition done to promote tourism. What do you think? Should this tradition be continued or are they making a mockery of Jesus' suffering?

We remember Christs sacrifice when Believers partake of the Lord's Supper
1Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which he was betrayed took bread; 1Co 11:24 And giving thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body, which is broken for you; this do in remembrance of Me." 1 Co 11:25 In the same way He took the cup also, after supping, saying, "This cup is the New Covenant in My blood; as often as you drink it, do this in remembrance of Me." 1Co 11:26 For "as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you show" the Lord's death until He shall come.
Luke 22:14-20; Mark 14: 22-; Matt 26:26-29
The sacrifice God requires of the Believer
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is that good and pleasing and perfect will of God.

love of god, country & family is what binds the philino people. kind of like what america used to be like about 60 years ago.
may god bless the beutiful people of the republic of philipines. mabuhay.
unlike the progressive pc brigade in the west bent on ripping their nations down, the proud people of the philipines take pride in who they are.
I don't see how this is a slight or mockery of anything to be honest. Though indeed this does sound rather gruesome, the death of Jesus was no picnic either. While one might argue that Jesus went through this so his followers wouldn't have to, there are many a celebration done in his honor that are unnecessary, or that fail to see the point.
From my experience I would suspect that the "foreigners" are anti-Catholic Americans as usual.
Why should anyone interfere with a private issue just because some foreigners are making a mockery of the issue? There is a simpler solution - kick the foreigners out of the country for acting
Read the text of the article associated with this poll.
Apparently it is the foreigners who are making a mockery of the rite, not the local Filipinos. I just assumed that the article use of "foreigners" refers to Americans who are generally very disrespectful of religion.
So my solution to resolve the issue is simple - just kick the foreigners out and the problem of foreigners making a mockery of the rite is solved.
"They're in their own country! What is he saying?"
besides... the Catholic church is all going to hell anyways... may as well be nailed to a cross when they do it ... more fuel for the fire ...
I see no harm. Not really that weird when you compare it to communion, where you're supposed to be literally eating Jesus's flesh and drinking his blood.
If they want to suffer in the same way the bible describes Jesus suffering, as a way to show their devotion to their faith, then I say "go ahead" that is their right.
As long as no one is seriously injured in the process.
edit: but by right, the nails should be going through the wrists not the hands
