Basically the prop is to increase taxes on cigarettes that would go to cancer research.

If the government is in charge of the tax, research may see little of that money. If people want to support cancer research then they should send the money direct to cancer research. The more the government is allowed to tax us, the less money and freedom we will have. Now if it were optional for instance: Cashier: "Would you like to add a dollar for cancer research with your purchase of these cigarettes today?" Patron: "No thank you, I just want the cigarettes." (In this scenario the patron was given a choice to help with research and declined.)

California has been raising taxes on cigarettes for over 30 years; in all that time the money collected by those taxes has gone into the general fund and not to fight Cancer.

Everyone should know that most cancer research is largely a fraud and that the major cancer research organisations are derelict in their duties to the people who support them.

Nope, nor will I be voting for any other tax schemes. The reality is if you propose to tax cigarettes in the state people will stop buying their cigarettes in this state and buy them elsewhere. So you will wind up with less tax money collected. In every state these laws have been implemented, they lose tax revenue because we can buy products from other states without that burdensome tax.

Why would you stop to debate with yourself. If the smokers want to smoke then they should pay the price. Thier choice not ours. TAXES are coming hooray hooray.

I don't smoke, and no money out my pocket for that nasty, disgusting habit.

At this time, there are two no votes. I wonder why the No on 29 had no courage to post their reasons and how they defend their "No".

I urge all Californians to fully support this and ANY other tax increases requested. For many decades California has been a trend setter for the country and that continues!

They are going to demonstrate to the country the inevitable result of long term trust in government to take care of us. What those poor bastards have really done is given the state and federal governments control over their financial and private lives, Don't STOP now when you are getting so close to proving a point.

It only raises taxes on cigarettes and since I don't smoke I don't see a reason not to.
