Feeding Homeless people BANNED: Would YOU break this LAW??!!

BlueRepublican 2012/07/23 23:05:46
You!
Add Photos & Videos
Major Cities all across America are fining and even jailing citizens who are breaking the law by feeding hungry homeless people. Charitable organizations have already began to take legal action.
dave
You need to have the proper tax documentation, permits, and licenses, inspections, etc... from the city and state in order to be able to feed a hungry person. Furthermore, some people who were giving away food (breaking the law, already) were found to have given food that did not 'completely' meet the FDA standards. The crackdown is to protect homeless hungry people from health concerns.
yup
While the battle continues, many have risked losing their freedom and
economic hardship, in order to follow their conscience. What would you
do? Would you feed a hungry person even if it land you in JAIL?

It is a catch 22. You want to help by giving them food. I have had them turn down the food and want money. So I give to organizations that have shelters that feed the homeless.

I've been fortunate enough to never have to worry about money. I have on quite a few occasions handed homeless people money, Several years ago, I gave these two homeless kids $400. I had noticed them before and felt terrible I didn't help them out before. The kids were in their late teens and the young girl was pregnant AND homeless. I was so surprised to see them again, I pulled over and walked towards them. They weren't asking for help or money but I knew what was going on. The young man refused at first being too proud, but I assured them it was ok to receive help from others. This was back in 2009. About 2 months after I first saw this couple, I received a phone call at my office from this young man willing to work for me doing ANYTHING for $5 an hour! He had no car, so I agreed to meet with him. after a wonderful meeting with both him and his wife-to-be for lunch, I agreed to hire both of them. I started them out each at $13 an hour knowing they really needed the money. After six months of working for me, I soon realized that these two had actually met in college and BOTH had recently graduated. they now are full time employees and are together making over $74,000 a year! I am so grateful that I came across this wonderful couple...........never judge a person whom appears to be down and out, you never know these days if it could be one of us walking those streets!

Yes I would. Especially with the fact that doing so falls under the "Good Samaritan Law" that Washington State adopted not too long ago. So if another, later law contradicts it, cops are S.O.L. :)) ...because it was never rescinded.

Let's face it..you might not even care bout them...but if aproached on the right day..you'll help out. it's hard to think that you've never given any assistance to the homeless..no matter what it is..and in this economy..there are some of us that will face living on the strets if we loose our jobs..or something just knocks us off our soapbox.

Especially if there's a kid as well.

While I don't encourage riding other people's charity as your method of survival, it's ridiculous that a small act of charity could land you behind bars.

as to being homeless myself, i understand a lot more on this now. I mean you have different type of homeless people, but you do have those, that do not get food. And it is important to feed people no matter what. I think it is ridicilous that they are doing this. But you know why? Because they want money even from the homeless.
Im at a homeless shelter, and they keep hounding us to eat more because they get more donations. Have to do all of this stuff, just for money to be kept in the place and what not. Not really complaining but showing that they do make money off the homeless as well. Just sad though.

It's like when you feed wild animals...keep feeding them and they'll keep coming back....ok, that was horrible, and just a joke...but I couldn't resist XD

Honestly though, I care more about helping homeless animals than homeless people. Sorry, but that's just the truth. I know there are some people on the streets who truly struggled to stay off of them, but then there are lazy people....plus, there are people who are NOT homeless who will pose as homeless people and panhandle for extra spending money. Also have heard stories of people being later harassed by homeless people they have given money to. So I just don't. I would give them business cards and other job info though. I know a co-worker of mine once gave a homeless person a card with the info for the company we work for. I'm sure if he applied he could have gotten the job. They don't really drug test for anything or expect a lot of experience so....

Here's another stupid law - if someone is living under a bridge in unsanitary conditions, eating out of garbage cans what food they can find - what does it matter if the food I give them is FDA approved? No one likes to see people that are homeless but it's the same morons who make laws like this that are keeping people jobless. Wake up America!

Undecided....It depends..on the situation. I won't go to jail for just anyone. But this is wrong in every sense of the word!
Oh so let's see...it's going to spread like wild fire that anyone feeding the homeless is going to get arrested? Ok, well you know what else is going to spread like wild fire? Dead bodies showing up more often.

Yes, I would. I'd probably work to get around it, like give the homeless person a McDonald's gift certificate or the like, which they couldn't do diddly about. I don't see how they can ban gifts, period. Giving a person food is a gift.

I am a sucker...:) and I have had some real experiences helping the needy and the greedy, but over the years I have gotten very cautious with who I help. I won't give money anymore, only food (unless God layed it on my heart to do it differently). Some really are hungry and downright needy, but the majority of them are chitbums looking for a handout for drugs etc...I don't smoke and I don't drink and I don't do drugs and I am not paying for somebody else to do all these things.

CHARITIES are objecting to individuals feeding the homeless? You need a permit to give a guy a chicken? It's a world gone mad.

Seems like these laws protect the few instead of the many.
