Well I live there so I might as well say that.

The only good thing the queen has done for this country is give Whitlam the boot, other then that she hasn't really been around much so it is very easy to forget her. However, she's a good woman and I respect her, it is a good feeling to be under a monarchy, I feel a sense of pride, dignity and respect and a special kind of unity with England by having a queen.

England. I'd love to spend years roaming London, all the rest of England, and for that matter, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. But London takes the cake for endless exploration. Or just the British Museum for that matter!

I wish the newly found portrait of young Shakespeare would go on display. What a gem that is!

After that, I have to go with Canada, as my parents and older sister were born there.

The queen doesn't actually still rule Canada. She's a figurehead and it's symbolic, that's all. There is absolutely zero attempt by the queen to impose any reign or rule on citizens of Canada. She has been replaced by the Governor General, who is technically the Queen's representative.

While she doesn't rule, the queen is a part of the Parliamentary government.

She opens the Parliament and also asks the winner of the PM election to take that office. Maybe it's ceremonial, but for now, it's part of the system.

Yes,Lola is right. The Governor General(Gouvernuere Générale) Michaëlle Jean is the one who acts as the Queen's Representative. The Queen still does appoint the Governor General of each country of the commonwealth realm. She has the power of opening, closing and proroguing parliament. She is officially The Commander and Chief, but she's is not the leader of the government, which the power of that belongs to the Prime Minister,is currently Stephen Harper.

Like I said above, they really don't have much to do with us but being under a monarchy brings unity and someone to look up to as a nation. I like them, not love them but I think it's nice to still say that the queen watches us!

Um, okay. O.o I just don't feel much of a unity. I didn't even realise the Queen still had anything to do with Canada and Australia... I'm a bit thick. :P But what will you do when she dies? When we're united by Prince/would-be-King Charles.

Well I don't really have that much respect for anyone else in the family, and for good reason. I think after that the romantic idea of being under a monarch will fade completely. I hope she lives a long time. Hopefully a prime minister that I actually like will be in by then, who knows!

I don't think the Queen is donna die anytime soon. She's gonna live till she's like 130 to stop Charles from becoming king. ^_^

I respect her because she performs her job (which is huge, of course) with grace. But I don't respect the way she treated Diana or has to be involved with all her kids' love lives. Good luck finding a virgin for Kilng Wills!

queen sh, your missing pinks point by a mile, England no longer as any power over you,it's historic but it connects you to a union of 53 soveign states that promote Tolerance and world peace, the Queen of England, is just a figure head, and that goes for the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish. Goverments hold the power but hey! A Commonwealth doesn't hurt, does it?
