Anyone who works full time should make enough money to be able to support themselves. It used to be our country had a "social compact" where companies shared in their prosperity by increasing the pay of workers an the corporations made more money. That attitude gave us a strong middle class. Now it is all about profits, and cutting pay and benefits when they can. That has been a horrible loss for our country.

Fast food jobs were never meant to be a career --it's work for high school & college students to help out and learn some entry level job skills as they go along their journey in life .It's a learning place to make some money along with retired citizens that want to supplement their retirement or just have something to do. FAST FOOD JOBS ARE A STARTING POINT NOT A CAREER CHOICE unless you want to work your way up thorough the ranks in the fast food industry. This is another example of people and a change and shift in our society wanting something without working to achieve anything better for their future. NO ONE STARTS OFF AT THE TOP !! Their strikes are fruitless and shows more signs of a misleading and disturbing society going amuck. Now get back to work before some other teenager takes your job !! Minimum wage is only for entry level people -- There should never be an adjustment in these kinds of jobs !!

Definitely!! It's lower now than in 1968 when they started the minimum wage. It should be up around 12 dollars an hour to keep up with inflation. Also it would put more money into the economy as workers would have more money to spend.

Maybe we should do away with minimum wage all together ??--we did it before 1968. More jobs would be lost --and many fast food restaurants will lay people off or close their doors for good . And with Obama care lurking it's nasty head around corner it's not a good time to raise anything at all . http://www.heritage.org/~/med...

Yeah, yeah, yeah they give these excuses not raise the minimum wage every time someone wants to raise it. But when they do raise it it never comes true. If a business can't pay a wage as low as a minimum wage then they probably are not good business people, and should try some other line of work.

I know you right wingers are haters of working people particularly low wage workers, but to say pay them less, you really have to hate them.

The CEO of McDonalds just got over a 300% raise to 13.8 million, and then said, McDonalds can't afford to pay workers more. Now that is the height of greed. How many burgers do McDonalds sell each day. Probably in the hundreds of millions. So to pay a worker at least 12.00 dollars an hour maybe they would have to raise the burgers .25 cents an hour.

The difference in profits would be negligible. Maybe the CEO might take a couple million a year less. I'm sure his lifestyle wouldn't change a bit. They might get more people to buy their product in support of what they did for their workers. I know I would. I haven't stepped into a McDonalds in 30 years.

Wow you are very funny. So you're going to ask every person who waits on you what their political affiliation is??? You now can go back to your right wing fantasy land, where you grovel at the feet of the super rich. That is where anybody belongs that hate the poor and working people!!!!

Non-managerial fast food jobs aren't good jobs for people who have families to support. They are good jobs for students, elderly people, and people who can't find anything better.

The minimum wage should be one set rate for ALL workers, regardless of the type of job.

In our current economy it should be a minimum of 400% of the poverty level or about $12.85 per hour.

We most lower welfare standards in order to get people back to work --Welfare income is higher than minimum wage income --so perhaps by lowering everyone's welfare check by 20 % and bringing the minimum wage up by 50 cents more an hour it will all start to grow the economy again .

  • sjalan True~Male 2013/09/05 03:58:05

Simple, the 1% started to hate the other 99% by taking away the ability to better their chances at becoming part of the upper 25%

REALLY SIMPLE> It started in the 1970's/80's with Ronald Reagan and the tyrannical attacks on the NLRB and unions across the nation all with the backing of the Rabid Radical Religious/Political Right.

I was there when it started and that is when I KNEW I needed to be far far away from civilization (cities) when I retired cause it wasn't going to be pretty when the system fails. Well I was Correct. The system is failing because the 1%er's have almost won. Not quite but almost. Shortly, and I mean within the next 5-7 years, the revolt against $400 million dollar a year CEO's and the fraud of false religion will be bringing this mess to a total stop.

If you're not ready for it I suggest you get with the program.

There's a reason it is the MINIMUM wage. It's because it is for zero-skill entry-level employment. If you want more, do something else.

It should be the REAL minimum wage... ZERO... people need to be able to contract for a job and negotiate their wages WITHOUT GOVERNMENT regulations.

WHO works at a fast food place and EXPECTS to support a wife and 2 kids? WHO works there? MAYBE a single Mom, but MOSTLY KIDS... KIDS are making extra pocket money NOT a livable income. It's the job where they learn about working and being on time, and having a boss, and paying taxes... and getting PAID for working.

Ahh... and why not? I get that ideally it isn't supposed to be a livable wage, however for many it has to be. Is it not better that they at least have a job. Should they not look into fast food?
