Fake Baby Bumps Are Popular in China: Wonderful or Weird?

Maybe you've seen a documentary on TV where a teen wears a fake baby bump to show and experience what it's like to be a pregnant teen, or even a movie where an actress simply needed to look like she's got one in the oven. Fake pregnancy belly suits are nothing new. But this is the first time we've heard of the items becoming noticeably popular.

According to The Washington Post, fake pregnant bellies, which are made out of skin-like silica gel and run for $80 to $250, are selling like hotcakes online. Well, we're actually not too sure how well hotcakes sell online, but you get the point. The product comes in a number of sizes and stages of pregnancy, and has been used in a number of ways, from fashion to fun. One seller told People's Daily, "Most of the costumers have bought the bellies for acting performances or as a joke, though others wanted to experience the life of a pregnant woman." What do you have to say about this kooky baby bump trend?

Sad. To be honest. China denies people the right to reproduce, and they're physically dissatisfied with their appearance so they alter it to look like they are reproducing. Meanwhile they walk past a dying little girl hit by a truck, ignore the little babies dropped in the dump, and try to ignore impending disaster by too many girls 'disappearing' and boys surviving. China's messed up.

I think that China is out of touch with reality and needs to get a grip. I am so glad that I live in America.

What? You think we are safe because we live in America? America is out of touch with reality, and this current tyrant Obummer regime is flushing our economy down the toilet. I've been exploring how to leave America, ever since the yet another disaster of Nov. 2008. 9-11 was an inside job. Should we wait until the next "false flag" to wake up? It might be too late then.

The world's gone crazy, listening to the pagan New World Order criminal elitists, who tell us that we can't enjoy freedom of having "all the children God gives." Those NWO criminal elitists, are corrupting America too. I don't think 1-child tyranny was even China's idea. More likely, pagan NWO criminal elitists - Western contraceptive imperialists, leaning on China to make them an example of pop "control," lest if the world's most populous country's population soars "out of control," what does that portend for the entire planet? But I already support a denser planet, for it answers the question, How do we enjoy having our precious darling babies in a world of so many people alive already? Where can we put billions more people? Where we always have. In between all the people already living. Let the world grow naturally, steadily, denser. So I have no criticism for China having so many people, for until 1-child tyranny, they were doing their part to help the world hold more people, by growing their country denser. Besides, 1-child tyranny, dishonors their pathetic "hero" commie chairman Mao. He said that a large and growing population would make China strong. Maybe, maybe not. But at least it allows all the more people to experience life.

I think it would be so cool, if China wasn't wearing fake baby bumps, but if people all over were really getting pregnant. Now that would be cool. About time humans get serious about multiplying again, so that all the more people could experience life.

I can have a baby in the USA and I don't have to ask the government for permission to do so or have to hide it because the government said I could not have it. This country has it's share of problems but it is still by far the best place to live in the whole world.

Yeah, so America isn't totally trashed yet. But re-elect the evil DemocRATS, and maybe they will get around to having "family planning boards" or whatever, to make our lives more difficult. Already TSA harasses us and gropes us at airports, not to help us be safe, but to condition us into accepting the coming police state.

I read that America is a "has been" country, and it's the best and brightest people who are leaving. I do hope I'm not too late for escaping, while I still can.

Wonder how long it will be, until we hear that ObamaCare refuses to pay for more than 2 well-baby deliveries? But then, such evil things can never happen in America, right?

Of course, Republicrat Bush (and Republicans) gave us the unconstitutional Patriot Act after his "false flag" 9-11. And now the evil Demon-cats like the Patriot Act too, since they seem to have forgotten their feigned anger about it? So both parties are corrupt. And now the Republicrats say, "Trust us this time, and we'll save the country from ObamaCare?" - eventually, if ever? If Ron Paul has to run 3rd Party, I might have to vote for him still. Neither party is trustworthy.

America used to be the best place to live. Now, I'm not so sure what it is? We seem to have lost our way.

I judge myself by the standard that my fashion may be wacky at times, but that's what it is, fashion. Bell bottoms or hammer pants or poodle skirts, corsets to make yourself smaller, padding to make yourself bigger. What people wear is their own choice.

I suspect this fake baby bump trend is being used in China to generate an air of prestige. Only people with a requisite amount of money can afford to pay the baby tax.
  • AnnaLucia SoD 2011/12/14 14:53:00
    AnnaLucia
And people in the U.S. wear designer clothes to create an air of prestige. To each their own.
  • SoD AnnaLucia 2011/12/14 16:36:02
    SoD
    Not so much.

Designer clothes are expensive, and thus wearing those clothes is a sign of prestige.

Parenthood is expensive in China because there is a surcharge on multi-child families, and thus appearing to be pregnant is a sign of prestige.
  • AnnaLucia SoD 2011/12/14 20:40:07
    AnnaLucia
Not so much what? You just agreed with exactly what I said XD Clothes are expensive for X so Clothes are prestige. Preggercy is expensive for Y so Preggercy is prestige. We wear knock off clothes to appear prestigious, they wear knock off babyholders to appear prestigious, and if they want to appear a certain way, that's their own decision.

Regardless of why the image itself is there, it's for image nonetheless, image, self expression, and personal choice, which I believe the Chinese deserve as much as anyone, regardless of the reason.
  • SoD AnnaLucia 2011/12/15 21:39:46 (edited)
    SoD
I'm not suggesting they don't deserve the right to express themselves in this manner. If anything, their response is far too mild.

My intent is to condemn only the Chinese government for creating the one-child policy, not the Chinese people.

I pity them as an utterly oppressed people.

If you think I'm opposed to self expression or free speech, you are sorely mistaken. I worship at the altar of free speech.

    About China and food:

My son-n -law is a GE Jet Engine Exe. Goes to China a lot, not just to Peking but to a lot of the medium size cities for Aircraft Maintenance and Assembly meetings

    (Yes, American jobs lost.).

He says they have just about eaten everything that moves in China.

Peking has no birds in Tenement Square, and they have started in on the insects, snakes, frogs, mise, rats, you name it.

They’re not starving, but like most places in the world food is expensive, and they like a variety of foods, Cats and Dogs are a favorite. If you can find one.

I only time I've heard of something like this was in Pulp Fiction. The Boxer's French girlfriend thought that a "pot belly" on a woman was very attractive. I don't know if it's just something strange to us Americans, or if it's just a Chinese thing. Either way, I don't personally understand it.

My guess is that it's a silent protest against China's "One Child Policy." What better way to help women who want another child get away with it than making it appear as though all the women are pregnant?

The Chinese government performs 35,000 forced abortions every day, including many we would call "partial birth abortions." They also reassign the families of women who dare to defy them to jobs that are a life sentence to poverty even by Chinese measures.

We should keep that in mind while we enjoy the economic orgy of December known as "Christmas." If that new toy says "Made in China," some of the money goes to kidnap pregnant women and take their babies from them, and to destroy their families because they wanted their children to have siblings. Another chunk of the money goes to support the massive military buildup China is in the midst of.

If the American people won't stand against China with their wallets, American soldiers will have to at some point with their lives.

    Merry Christmas.

I hear that Clinton was the one who lifted the trade embargo with China. He also gave military secrets to China, which was in the news at the time, for about a week. (I saw it). Maybe the thing with the gal in the White House was just a diversion tactic, to get away from these horrific actions. Look at the results. The wealth is shifting from the U.S. to China. China now has a full on, world class army. The trade embargo had been in place because of the human rights violations. The violations didn't change, or stop, just the embargo. rotten politics.
