What happens is most people don't realize it isn't just a religion or way of life but also a political and military system. So you are dealing with a monolith not a religious belief.

I have seen the execution of Daniel Pearl before. It was shortly after the similar execution of another person. The funny thing is the people who chopped off the head were shown. They were unlike the people in the previous video who were skinny men who looked like they haven't eaten for awhile. Daniel Pearl executioners were well fed. Point is that this probably was not done by "terrorists" but by the other side.
