Penny Arcade is running a Kickstarter campaign pledging to run their site without ads for a year. On the flip side, sites like Facebook are displaying more and more ads, hopefully not leading to their own demise like we saw with MySpace. Does it even matter to you? Or would you pay for an ad-free internet?

VENTUREBEAT.COM reports:Remember when Facebook only showed three ads on each page? And when the company moved to four in 2010? More recently, the company has been at six, and I'm currently seeing seven, but Facebook is now testing up to 10 ads per page ... and I'm thinking of some ancient history.

Those particular obnoxious ads are designed like that because they know almost no one would pay attention otherwise.

I don't mind ads. Sometimes I even like them because they're sometimes selling what I want.
I think advertisers are being foolish to put ads on fb because i don't come to fb to buy things; I just want to socialize. Sometimes when I'm on Google tho I am looking for something to buy so the ads are more likely to be useful to me and I'm more likely to buy something from them.

I block ads if they become obtrusive. If the site owner insists I just stop going there and block the whole site. Facebook is nothing special to me. They make money off me being there. They need me way more than I need them.

I don't mind tasteful ads. I don't even mind clicking on a few just to help out when I can. . .but don't hide your goodies behind a pay/ad wall or I'll be adding your site to my hosts file blocklist. I haven't been on the NYT or LA Times in well over five years.

You don't need to pay to get rid of adds.

Simple steps to getting rid of adds.

    1. Download Firefox
    2. Get Ad Block Plus
    3. ??????
    4. Profit

And you will never be bothered by ads again.

Now I think about it seriously, sure I would. If its a reasonable cost, maybe $5 a month.

I know AdBlock Plus is bad for business but... some websites' ads are just too annoying. Like Sodahead's. I disable AdBlock on most of the sites I use regularly though.

Only if it was for my own website (to keep ads off), not the entire internet.

Are you kidding me? You have a better chance of stopping viruses and closing all the porn sites than stopping adds!
I'll just keep updating my addblockers and call it good
