Eduardo Saverin, 30, joins a growing number of people giving up U.S. citizenship ahead of a possible increase in tax rates for top earners. The Brazilian-born resident of Singapore is one of several people who helped Mark Zuckerberg start Facebook in a Harvard University dormitory and stand to reap billions of dollars after the world’s largest social network holds its IPO.

Facebook plans to raise as much as $11.8 billion through the IPO, the biggest in history for an Internet company. Saverin’s stake is about 4 percent, according to the website whoownsfacebook.com. At the high end of the proposed IPO market capitalization, that would be worth about $3.84 billion. His holdings aren’t listed in Facebook’s regulatory filings.

    socialism / communism at it's best ,,,,tax the weathy and we'll alive off them ..

    I'd rather work for my wages ......it does instill pride / and work ethics .....something the liberals just dont understand ...

    No one has shown he doesn't still have it. There is a natural assumption he would still have it as why give it up if you don't have too. He probably has Singapore citizenship also. Don't forget there's lots of countries he could easily immigrate too. When you have the bucks most countries let you in since your not going to be a burden on them and your not going to be looking for work.

    BRAZIL..... Isn't that the country where obama guaranteed BILLIONS of U.S. dollars to drill for oil yet will not put the same investment here in the U.S.?

    I guess that's why Brazil is booming its all that American money. Ha ha.

    The IRS in the states a year or so ago started making all adult holders of US Citizenship regardless of where they lived in the world file income tax. You had people that hadn't lived in the states for years and earn all their money in another country having to suddenly file income tax declaring all their earnings. They didn't have to pay taxes to the States but they had to tell them all their info. From what I heard a lot of citizenship's were given up to avoid the long arm of the IRS.

    Personally I wouldn't move back to Brazil if I was him. Then again I wouldn't live in Singapore either(too crowded). My preference would be Germany, Switzerland or Austria.

    does it matter? you support his decision. does that make you a liberal? you guys need to learn how to debate and stop just saying whatever pours out of your mouths. you either do or don't support this sort of tax evasion regardless of who is doing it or you are a party suck up and not worth talking to anyway.

    This isn't a big shocker, as I wouldn't even bother telling people I was leaving the country if I stood to lose that much in taxes. If you're that wealthy, how hard is it to transfer all your money overseas and to vanish overnight?

    Taxes have already driven most manufacturing away, as you see democrat liberals are blinded by their own greed. When taxes are lowered prosperity follows and results in more tax revenue to the government period, this has been proven before.

    California needs a complete overhaul, I was recently in SC and the people I spoke to are not happy with their current situation of high taxes and the continued upward climb of taxes, with no real change in spending, frankly they seemed pretty irritated with the state in general.
