If your Facebook account and organ donation are two of your favorite things, this is your lucky day. Inspired by the social network's unplanned role in keeping people connected while disaster ravaged Japan during the tsunami, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is making it easy for users to spread their organs around by giving them an opportunity to share their donor status and link to donor registration sites.

Zuckerberg told "Good Morning America, "Dinner conversations [with my girlfriend] are often about Facebook and kids, and the kids that she's meeting. She'll see them getting sicker, then, all of a sudden, an organ becomes available, and she comes home and her face is all lit up because someone's life is going to be better because of this." So they're partnering with Donate Life America in hopes of lighting up the 114,000 people on waiting lists. But is it an appropriate partnership for Facebook?

Absolutely 100-percent okay! We need more organ donors, and I'm glad Facebook is taking a stand and doing something so prodigious.

I'm an organ donator on my license. So when I die, my organs won't go in the garbage. They'll help instead. While I'd like to be brave enough to donate any necessary organs while alive, I'm extremely afraid of surgery... & I have asthma, so they couldn't anesthetize me too much (which means I may not be put under enough). Sooo... Yea, not for me lol. Anyways, good job Facebook. Actually changing the website for BETTER for once -_- ...

I'm with you. After I die, take everything useful to help others. While living I'd only consider donating an organ to family. Unless it was bone marrow or something like that.

Why not?? Facebook has the power to do anything, really. Organ donation can bring people together like religion, or lack of religion does.

The water additives destory our kidneys. Many people use facebook and it is a perfect way to get people awear of the problem. Why Not? I wish facebook would have petitions to sign to stop the chemical contamination of our food and water. We can use alternative technologies to disinfect our water and not put chemicals in it. Less people would have kidney failure and need orgin donations.

Why not? If it's OK for donar identification to be on your driver's license, it should be OK for any other means of identification.
The only drawbak I can think of would be the age of the person. maybe there should be an age disclaimer to alleviate legal concerns.

I don't think this is a part of Humanity tht. FB should be into. As we know Hussein Obama has FB as his "friends" if u r not viewd as viable they will let u die for your organs for a politician of Hussein's liking.

I don't really see how this makes much difference in an emergency, considering doctors would still need confirmation from your records (at least that's how it is in Aus), but I think anything that will increase awareness and encourage people to become donors is a good thing. Plus it's not a compulsory thing so you don't have to share your status if you don't want to.

face book is for fools. At least they may send those fools to donate organs. Otherwise the selfish kids would let good usable parts be lost when they crash a car driving drunk and texting.

Donate is up to individuals, kept to them self for the most part. the question here is to encourage, not mandatory. Lots of groups encourage donating so what's the big deal. do or don't.

With so many people waiting, even for years for organ transplants I think this might be a good thing at first. But, eventually there will be so many organs that they won't be able to use them all since facebook reach a lot of people.

that wouldn't happen, the person willing to donate may never die in the correct way. It is ALWAYS KIND to be an organ donor because if you are dead you don't need that body anymore . I have lots of medical problems but if they can use even an ounce of my dead body go for it! I do have wonderfully smooth skin, maybe a burn victim could use my skin. I don't have perfect eye sight but if a blind person could see anything they would be happy. My lungs and heart are weird from birth but a section could help someone who will die with none at all. OK everything else is good, so I am not that worthless for spare parts

I have my donor status on my DL, my POA Healh Care Directive and my Living Trust.
Adding a Facebook app is just another layer.
Being an organ and tissue donor is important.
    Telling your family is vital.

Some lib was whining about some one not getting a replacement of something or another.

I suggested that he donate all his organs.

He says that he would die.

I said that is a personal problem.

Just like taxes, the elite libs want everyone to pay, except themselves. Kind of like Buffet, he thinks the rich ought to pay more taxes, yet he is in court for failure to tens of millions of dollars in back taxes.

    Edit:
They don't want my organs, they are afraid my conservative DNA would take over any body to that receives a transplant from me.

Its nice to donate, if your dead, however there is alot that you would have to do. I'm sure there are many people out there willing to donate, but its hard to match up blood types, make sure the person isn't diseased and then ensure the organ is in good shape. Just putting it out there can put people in danger. Look, at what people do when someone defriends them! Would you really want to be a known donor, defriend someone whos a wacko and they come to your house, kill you and harvest your organs? If people where weirdos and psychopaths, yea go ahead and put your a donor and you need to put your blood type and if you have anything. Might as well add your Social security card and a copy of your drivers liscenes both front and back where it shows your an organ donor. That way, facebook can make even more money off you and you can't just be found in the DONOR REGISTRATION!
