Except for the year 2012, do you remember the media actively and repeatedly blaming any Spring/Summer gasoline price increases on the supposedly innocent, unavoidable "transition" to the "summer blend"?

Why is the "summer blend" transition so often mentioned now?...Didn't the "summer blend" transition happen during Bush's and other's administrations as well?

In the past, if the price rose, was the "summer blend" transition blamed?

And, if the price did not rise, yet the same costly "summer blend" transition took place, then WHY did it NOT rise?

Any valid explanations?

It is like 8 years of "Seasonal Hiring" during Christmas was hammered down our throats that Bush was not creating jobs, BUT NOW every Christmas Season is hailed as Obama saving the Economy, Saving Jobs, Creating Jobs.
    SAME BS JUST DIFFERENT TAKE!

Liberals really think average Americans are that stupid as to believe the tripe they shove down our throats!!!

In michigan, gas goes up every time especially at time people plan to go on vacation,
like 4th july, memorial weekend, and goes other times to. IN michigan they want you to
travel, help business, but then they raise gas prices.

There is no response above that suites what is going on at this time. It is normal for the gas to go up when the change over to the summer blend. That is not what is happening at this time. Bush remove the moratorium on off shore drilling to end his. Obama closed drilling and put the moratorium back on off shore drilling and he has not given out that many permits. The oil that we have now is from Clinton and Bush and from private lands. Obama claims he open more lands to drilling. What he is not telling is he closed as much as he opened and he has not given out the permits to drill. You can call him deceptive or just a damned liar, your choice.

Other blames were the shutting down of refineries to do the transition and maintanance. Then of course the high consumption because of a good economy. But Obama can't say that.

I remember there were Panels where some "experts" came on to discuss this.. It wasn't just the "Summer Blend " but they discussed the different blends around the country as well.. California had IT'S own blend,, for instance,, and THAT was cited as the reaon why gas was higher in Calififornia.. They said THEN that the cost of this was no more then a few cents on the gallon..

I have NEVER seen the kind of Media BLITZ that we see today in an obvious campaign to absolve a President of ANY reponsibility for gas prices as I have seen recently.. And this is ESPECIALLY ironic as MOST of those involved in this campaign were standing in line blamming BUSH when the prices went up under HIS administration..

SAME thing with the Debt.. When Obama was running,, raising the Debt by 4.9 Trillion dollars over an 8 year period of time was,, in Obama's OWN words,, UNAMERICAN and UNPATRIOTIC.. But now that HE'S done the SAME thing in just THREE YEARS,, it's the salvation of mankind and if THAT doesn't fly,, It's STILL all Bush's fault three years after he's been out of offiice..

I've never heard of a summer blend before. However, it does seem like the price of gas does always go up right before summer. It just seems like it started very early this year.

The thing of it is, it has ALWAYS gone up for summer. Mainly, because that is when people are taking rd trips the most. they drive to vacation spots and to visit relatives because kids are out of school. So they take their vacations in the summer. Also Christmas they travel to visit families, so they jack the price up for that. And any weekend that people travel to be together. It has been that way since I can remember. Has nothing to do with "summer" blend. They raise the prices for those times because, We the people, being the spoiled people that we are, make plans, and we will not change our plans just because of a raise in prices. BUT, if we did, it would stop the raising of the prices. For those times, anyway.

Or, like we are seeing more and more of, he doesn't really do much thinking on his own, just reads a script, and his only qualification is he can read and looks good on TV or sounds good on the Radio!!!

every so often it would come up on a slow news day ....winter blend means oxygen is added ( a little like carbonation in beer or soda ) to made the fuel burn cleaner in the cold weather ...summer blend means no extra additives so by rights it should cost less . its all about EPA meddling to push the green agenda , speculators making a boat load if money at our expense and barry standing there with his thumb up his ass depending on his mindless supporters to carry him into the next four years . welcome to unmerika comrade !

That makes about as much sense as charging more to take the sugar out of something, that they put the sugar into to start with. Just don't put it in, in the first place and save all of that money that that the sugar would have cost, that they would have put in. But they charge MORE to not put it in so they are making double money on a product they are not using. Sugar.

Senator Obama and the Democrats most certainly blamed Bush for high gasoline prices in 2006, this was a huge part of their platform in order to win control of Congress. Here's the video to prove it.

It is Obama's energy policy that is driving up prices. There is a winter blend for diesel but the price should be lower in summer when they don't have to add the cold weather additive.

The ethanol mandate increases the cost of gasoline and limits its supply and this is seasonal. It is also totally without justification and any President who is not pushing Congress to remove this most harmful mandate is clearly derelict of concern for the General Welfare. The media does usually say little about this added ethanol blending cost, especially in the early years when environmentalists were claiming it reduced pollution and others claimed it made us more energy independent. Both claims are about universally recognized as false now. What is more, the ethanol blend requirement very substantially increases our food costs and reduces our food exports. Eliminating this requirement would immediately reduce gasoline costs by much more than the penny or two leftists so often claim is all any increase in American oil production would do. They are wrong on that also, of course. There are substantial variations in gasoline prices across the country depending upon local oil supply, nearby refinery capacity, and local demand for gasoline. Supply and demand always has a strong impact on prices! Of course, socialists can never understand this.

Thanks...That is as close to what I am referring to as I have yet to see.

    That one being from 2011.

Still not quite what I am looking for regarding the significance that I have heard the national radio news media give it.

About what year did these seasonal blends initially come into use in a major way?

I don't know myself, and I am curious to find out.
