Every underage child must have a legal guardian so why isn't the legal guardian held responsible when an underage child commits a crime ? The guardian is supposed to be an adult so , what's the problem ?

At what age is someone "of age" to be tried as an adult ?
Are we saying that a 15 year old doesn't know what they are saying or doing ? That says a lot for our educational establishments .
There are many "ADULTS" who don't know what they are saying or doing , do we let them off the hook ?
Our judicial systems are antiquated when an 18 year old can put on a uniform and take a life or have theirs taken defending our country BUT , they can't vote ?????
Who decides the age of reason , and have we raised the bar in education when children today know more than those of yesteryear ?

So why have the laws not changed accordingly ?

Depends on the crime, the age of the child, if it is a troubled child from social services. Ect.

dont really see how yes or no answers the question, but no way should a guardian be held responsible. Though parents/guardians are part of what influences how a child acts, its just that... theyre only play a PART in keeping their kids under control.

The guardian can influence the child, but they can't control the child. the child's actions are his own.

To some extent. I think if its clear that the guardian was negligent and did not provide proper care as an adult, then they should be partially responsible for the actions.

If a parent does all they can and the kid just happens to be a screw up, they made conscious decisions and should learn to live with their actions. Thats called...being an adult.

The legal gardian of the child should be fully responsible for the child no matter what happens. That is all that I have to say.

Wasn't sure which answer choice to pick, so i'll define my "No".

No, it is not the guardian's responsibility in many cases, if not most. At a certain age, children/teens will do as they wish, with or without your permission and with or without your knowledge.

How can we as a society, condemn a guardian who is can not control their child? If the guardian is responsible for his child, the guardian is thus responsible for another human being's actions.

In that case, do we hold anyone that may be in a guardian like position, responsible for their guarded person's behavior?

I believe it is an important distinction. In some instances, it is the influence of the guardian that causes a child to behave in the manner they have. But the furnishing that burden of proof is on society as to avoid incarcerating an innocent human.

Guardians should provide mentoring, education, foundation for basic life necessities, and a host of other social and well-being skills, however, they can not necessarily be held responsible for the actions that take place by another human's hands.
