Every Republican Senator Said NO To Equal Pay For Women. Do YOU Support Equal Pay For Equal Work ?

An election-year Democratic measure designed to ensure that women don't face pay discrimination was blocked Tuesday by Republicans who complained that the bill was politically inspired and would reward trial lawyers at the expense of employers.

The motion, which needed 60 votes to succeed, got only 52, not one from a Republican.

President Obama issued a statement criticizing Republicans for putting "partisan politics ahead of American women and families."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, standing at a news conference with pay equity advocate Lilly Ledbetter, accused Republicans of "wanting to stick their heads in the sand" about the longstanding issue of women being paid less than men. "But it's clear where Democrats stand," Reid said.

The bill, which Democrats said would close loopholes in the 1963 Equal Pay Act, would require employers to prove that differences in pay were related to job performance, not gender; would prevent employers from forbidding employees from sharing salary information with each other; and would allow women who believe they were discriminated against to sue for damages.

Democrats acknowledged privately that they expected to make political gains with women by pressing to close the pay gap, which they said has women earning just 77 cents on the dollar compared with men.

Republicans, fearful that Democrats were trying to portray them as insensitive to women, argued that they oppose pay discrimination but disagree with the Democrats' bill, which was written without their input. Republicans remained largely silent about the issue in the days leading up to the vote, even as Democrats, led by the president, made an all-out push for the legislation.

I actually paid the women actors more than the men actors in a teaser trailer I recently directed with 32 actors altogether.

But this hypocritical Democratic U.S. Senator doesn't! He pays the women in his office 26.5 percent less than the men in his office, on average. He's up for re-election this November, and I'm definitely casting my vote for his number one competitor.

I go above and beyond the call of duty by not only paying the women actors atleast as much money as their male counter-parts, but even more, out of my pocket, too. And this is how you reply to me?

I also gave you facts about this US Senator, which the IRS has also. If anything this Senator could try to set the kind of pay example I set. And BTW, I didn't do porn. It's a teenage movie, and their parents were all there watching us film the scenes.

If Che were dead then would you be whining about him ? You can kill a man but you can't kill an idea. The CIA just made Che a martyr. His ideas are as alive as ever.

Che and a group of revolutionaries overthrew the Military Dictatorship of Batista, who was installed and supported by the US, US Corporations, and the Mafia. He went on to help other countries do the same. He was hunted down and killed in Bolivia by a CIA trained hit squad with CIA personnel present.

But the story doesn't end there. Because of people like Che Guevara, the US lost its grip on Latin America and most of the countries that once had dictators now have Social Democracies.

Where will your ideas be when you are dead ?

No, I support Equal pay for equal work no matter the gender. What you want is a blanket pay raise for all women with no merit based or "equal work" aspect.

Oh, and if this is a "republican" thing, why are all of the Democrat Senetors, Reps, and even the White House paying their women less then the men in their staffs. It's true. Look it up.

Besides, the private-sector "gender pay gap" is a myth. A few examples:

    Wrong as usual.

The gender gap at work is still alive and well according to new research that examined gender roles in the workplace.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics cites women working 41 to 44 hours per week earn 84.6% of what men working similar hours earn. It gets worse as women work longer hours — women working more than 60 hours per week earn only 78.3% of what men in the same time category earn.

Of COURSE I support equality for women but THIS law has nothing to DO with that..

Step aside, oil speculators, student loans, and Bain Capital. There's a new shiny object President Obama would like you to worry about, rather than contemplating this, this, or this: "Equal Pay" for Women. Another installment of Obama's " GOP War on Women" has taken the spotlight..

ANOTHER attempt too pit American against American in the Democrat Doctrine of "Divide and Conquer"...

A Memo sent out by the White House:

“It's been nearly 50 years since Congress passed the Equal Pay Act, but today a woman who works full time still earns just 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man. That's not just unfair. When women, who make up nearly half the workforce, bring home less money each day, it means they have less for the everyday needs of their families. That's bad for kids, it's bad for communities, and it's bad for the entire country. So President Obama is supporting the Paycheck Fairness Act, which is designed to update the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and help close the pay gap.”

Let's humor the president's men for a moment and play along with his game. Hasn't this president already signed another piece of equal pay legislation into law? Oh, that's right, the Lilly Ledbetter Act was his first ...

Let's humor the president's men for a moment and play along with his game. Hasn't this president already signed another piece of equal pay legislation into law? Oh, that's right, the Lilly Ledbetter Act was his first legislative accomplishment upon taking office. Let's recall what he said about it back in 2009:

“President Obama signed his first bill into law on Thursday, approving equal-pay legislation that he said would “send a clear message that making our economy work means making sure it works for everybody. It is fitting that with the very first bill I sign — the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act — we are upholding one of this nation’s first principles: that we are all created equal and each deserve a chance to pursue our own version of happiness,” the president said.”

He's continued to tout Ledbetter as an important achievement on the campaign trail this year. Is his sudden, frantic support for the Equal Pay Act an admission that his previous fix has failed like everything else he’s done as President? Or is he simply trying to divide Americans and paint Republicans as anti-women in an election year? Gosh, I wonder.

The Washington Post's fact checker has awarded the White House "One Pinnochio" for its pay discrepancy claims, arguing that Team Obama cherry-picked the crudest, most frightening data to advance a political agenda:

“Economists at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis surveyed economic literature and concluded that “research suggests that the actual gender wage gap (when female workers are compared with male workers who have similar characteristics) is much lower than the raw wage gap.” They cited one survey, prepared for the Labor Department, which concluded that when such differences are accounted for, much of the hourly wage gap dwindled, to about 5 cents on the dollar. Not only did the White House pick the statistic that makes the wage gap look the worst, but then officials further tweaked the numbers to make the situation for African Americans and Hispanics look even more dire.”

So the more comprehensive comparison reveals that women make about 95 cents on the dollar compared to men. But why is there any gap at all? That trenchant question brings us to our next point...

Women tend to earn less than men for reasons other than discrimination..
The main reason is that women spend less time at work than men and THAT'S because they place their priorities on the family.. A noble attitude but one that restricts their wage earning potentials..

The FACT is,, Today, childless 20-something women do earn more than their male peers. But most are likely to cut back their hours after they have kids, giving men the hours, and income, advantage.. There is also the question of seniority.. A person starting a job isn't going to make as much as another who's been there for years nor SHOULD they.. NOR is someone hired on the same day as another with more experience in the job going to start out with the same pay nor should THEY.. And this is true REGARDLESS of gender but it is NOT taken into account when these statistics are formulated for political purposes of GENDER divison by Democrats....

On top of everything else,, the hypocrisy in all of this is galling. The Obama White House pays female staffers $11,000 less per year, on average, than their male counterparts. The average pay gap among Senate Democrats' male and female staffers is $6,500 per year. And one of the 'equal pay' cult's most fanatical backers, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, pays her female staff members nearly $27,000 less on average per annum, compared to men. Are these Democrats guilty of rank, anti-women bigotry, or do seniority and other factors explain these disparities? Care to explain this head-scratcher, Nancy? Nah:

So if the Equal Pay Act is a redundant legislative concoction that won't actually solve a deeply distorted faux "crisis," and if it's loudest advocates don't even come close to practicing what they preach on so-called equality, what's the point of this push? Sure, they're trying to score points against the GOP, but there's also a ripe Democratic constituency that truly would benefit from this law:

The bill ought to be called the "Trial Lawyer Paycheck Act," since it is a recipe for a class-action boom. The law automatically lists women as plaintiffs in class actions when lawyers sue employers, thereby requiring female employees to opt-out of litigation with which they don't agree. Businesses would be treated as guilty until shown to be innocent, having to prove in court that their pay practices aren't the result of workplace bias. The legislation contains no caps on damage awards, allowing plaintiffs to claim unlimited punitive damages even in cases of unintentional discrimination.

A boon to trial lawyers and a job-crushing blow to businesses in an era of 15 percent real unemployment.

    The GOP’s War on Women??

No.. Just another battle in Obama’s War on American Busineses....

The republicans READ THE BILL. You have no link here to the bill itself. I have NO IDEA what PORK was attached to the bill, and no idea how the bill was worded. THEY did know these things and since they turned it down I would say it MUST be full of crap as a bill.

NOW, if the O administration is soooo worried about this then WHY is theri own admin paying women LESS???

All of President Barack Obama's employees may not be treated equally in the White House, as recently released financial records show that female employees earn significantly less than their male counterparts.
Using the 2011 annual report of White House staff salaries that was submitted to Congress, an $11,000 difference is clear between the median female employee salary and the median male employee salary.

There's nothing "that's different' about it. The WH staff has always been working under the same payscale as they did under each POTUS, no matter who was in office. Obama wants to change it.
