Every Republican Senator Said NO To Equal Pay For Women. Do YOU Support Equal Pay For Equal Work ?

An election-year Democratic measure designed to ensure that women don't face pay discrimination was blocked Tuesday by Republicans who complained that the bill was politically inspired and would reward trial lawyers at the expense of employers.

The motion, which needed 60 votes to succeed, got only 52, not one from a Republican.

President Obama issued a statement criticizing Republicans for putting "partisan politics ahead of American women and families."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, standing at a news conference with pay equity advocate Lilly Ledbetter, accused Republicans of "wanting to stick their heads in the sand" about the longstanding issue of women being paid less than men. "But it's clear where Democrats stand," Reid said.

The bill, which Democrats said would close loopholes in the 1963 Equal Pay Act, would require employers to prove that differences in pay were related to job performance, not gender; would prevent employers from forbidding employees from sharing salary information with each other; and would allow women who believe they were discriminated against to sue for damages.

Democrats acknowledged privately that they expected to make political gains with women by pressing to close the pay gap, which they said has women earning just 77 cents on the dollar compared with men.

Republicans, fearful that Democrats were trying to portray them as insensitive to women, argued that they oppose pay discrimination but disagree with the Democrats' bill, which was written without their input. Republicans remained largely silent about the issue in the days leading up to the vote, even as Democrats, led by the president, made an all-out push for the legislation.

These are also trend lines, predicted outcomes, not current statistics. It's a bad prediction too. Even though the percentage of women's wages is increasing it doesn't threaten the wages of the male population. The article even says so,
"Economists and union leaders welcomed the shrinking gender gap, particularly as it suggests that equal wages will be reached at a far earlier date than previously thought."

I appreciate your response but after living on this planet for many decades, seeing how extremely slow it is for all "MEN" to be treated equal, I have found the process to be next to a sloth climbing up a tree and 100 times slower for woman to have equal rights. What are your experiences?

But I do not support legislating it. Many of the pay discrepancies come from women working shorter hours and passing laws to regulate would put yet another added burden on the employer and could even result in a business owner limiting his exposure to the law by hiring fewer women. By the way, did everyone hear that Patty Murray, the Democratic senator from WA State pays her female staff 26K less than her male staff? Damn those Libs and their war on women.

The case I'm waiting for is basketball. Should women in the WNBA be paid the same salaries as men in the NBA? It's the same job, after all. How much more "equal" can work be?

Will the NBA be "taxed" to equalize revenue so female stars make the same money that LeBron James does? Gotta wonder if Congress thought this through.

Since 1979 there have been 3 or four Equal Pay Bills for women. They are strong laws even ill hugged the lady it was named for. BUT Democrats are not interested in equal pay for women. The Democrats are interested in their LIES and what filth they can sneal in. Here you se the Democta LIARS trying to call the Republicans Woman haters. When they are LIARS and refuse to impliment most of the 3 lawes already passed. Some Women Lovers this TRASH IS.
Also the White House will not pay equal salery to their women employees. Nanci the Drunk does the samemthing to her female staff. Get your TRUTH CORRECT before you shed Sh@t again

I believe there should be equal pay based on a whole host of factors including education, experience and performance. If the woman's credentials matched the man's credentials in those important categories then yes she should make substantially the same amount as the man. What I don't support is yet another government agency with a bloated staff led by leftists that post on the internet with pseudonyms that begin with Che ginning up cases. Women and others that believe they have been discriminated against can seek redress in court.

The lunatic left has romanticized Che Guevara. Truth is he was a psychopath that murdered thousands of Cubans as young as 16. When he goes on vacation in Miami I'll bet he leaves his Che T Shirt at home.

181 people from the Batista Regime were executed after the Cuban Revolution. Most of the Batista criminals simply left Cuba and moved to Miami.

Che and a group of revolutionaries overthrew the Military Dictatorship of Batista, who was installed and supported by the US, US Corporations, and the Mafia. He went on to help other countries do the same. He was hunted down and killed in Bolivia by a CIA trained hit squad with CIA personnel present.

But the story doesn't end there. Because of people like Che Guevara, the US lost its grip on Latin America and most of the countries that once had dictators now have Social Democracies.

Che personaly oversaw the execution of over 5,000 Cubans some as young as 16. He even had a picture window installed in his office so he could see the executions from his desk. He was executed by a Bolivian officer on the orders of the Bolivian president. The US wanted him excavated to Panama for interrogation. Maybe a little bit of waterboarding.

His revolutions added to the polarization of politics in South and Central America which led to far more deaths than might otherwise have been the case. I undestand he's a hero to you. My heroes didn't murder anyone.

So the bill's authors don't give two $hits about equality for women but rather tossing a bone to their biggest special interest group, trial lawyers. I'm not surprised.

Please, go bother somebody else with that b.s. I am not an Obama fan BUT I certainly don't need anybody CONSTANTLY, on here, bringing EVERYTHING into Obama. It's always the same b.s........ 'Obama wasn't born here' 'Obama's parents (father) wasn't born here' Obama's the anti-Christ' and so on and so on.

Don't mean to be rude or anything but it gets irritating. This question had to do with Republicans and equal rights, I personally didn't read anything about how 'Obama is just making this up for a cover'
