Ever been walking in Memphis?
Some of you wrote to ask me to post a story about Memphis. So I entitle this Walking in Memphis. I spend a lot of time doing that these days. Memphis is unique. The people have that down home southern charm and hospitality that makes me feel at home when I'm not. Everyone from Charlie my personal 24 hour cab driver to Betty the waitress at the Blue Note Restaurant in the Memphis airport welcomed me the first day I ... touched down in the land of Delta Blues in the middle of the pouring rain.
My office building is one of the pictures and I'm on the 6th floor, only one floor from the rooftop lounge overlooking the Mississippi and Flag Island. Needless to say it's nice. I am happy to have a job in these trying times and this one seems like a welcome change to the New York minutes that I have come to know. Things go a little slower down here. Catfish is breaded with Corn Meal and fried to a golden brown. Smoked Turkey BBQ sandwiches are a favorite and oh man, biscuits and gravy like no place else. I walk about 6 blocks every morning dragging my laptop and paraphernalia passing the Trolley Station and all the restaurants. If I get time there's Autozone Baseball park to attend a leisure AAA game one night. Tomorrow at 4pm I'll go down to the lobby to watch the March of the Ducks in the Peabody Hotel Lobby.
Last Wednesday the team did a Welcome party for me, we all met down on Beale Street. I was tired of Walking in Memphis so I took a Horse Carriage over to Beale and arrived in the style of Cinderella to the ball. Silky's Bar was a great place with a wonderful patio bar, dueling pianos and a live Blues band on the deck. What a nice cool and humid evening, listening to blues and sipping Cosmos while trading war stories with my new team. A walk to the Blue Plate Diner through the crowds, Beer Stands and Bar take-out windows was different. It was Bikers on Beale night, which is every Wednesday so the street was lined with Harleys and Indians just like Sturgis as we made our way down for some Catfish and BBQ. I've promised the Team dinner at Brazilian Steakhouse if we make this story 60 days earlier than deadline. It will make an election I think. Bit of inside info Palin is running and also rumor sources (very solid) Ryan and Christie are re-thinking options. The list of candidates we have is just so sorry we have to do something to move on replacing the 0-man.
I have little free time these days to spend here, but I will stop by whenever I can. I work long 10 to 12 hour days. For 2 more weeks I have only Saturdays at home in NC to do laundry and repack. I arrive home Friday night and leave on Sunday morning at 730. I've only slept in my land bed 4 times in the last year, tonight will be my 5th. Seems like you really learn to appreciate the little things like the smell of my own sheets and a warm husband when you live a life like mine.
Take care, fight hard and I'll be here when I can fellow conservatives.

+1I lived in Memphis for four years, when I was a pup. That was when Apollo 11 landed.reply -
It's kind of sad because there is nothing really in the heart of town anymore other than restaurants and bars. I see all the old vacant buildings and their beautiful architecture. I'm sure back in the days it was a hustling busy metropolis. It still is but now it's tourists and bar flies. I'm sure it's a ghost of what it once was.reply - SK-LIBERTY OVER EQUALITY 2011/08/20 16:08:23
