I'll agree, but remember that if it wasn't for the US Marines, Army And Navy, we'd be speaking Japanese under an authoritarian government in Australia. Perhaps one day, someone in Afghanisyan will work our that they are able to get an education because of the USA. Americans have a lot to be proud of.

Americans, or the US Government? Does anyone really believe our troops are protecting American Interests, just American Corporate interests.
  • ghostrider Dweezle 2012/07/01 16:54:18

Americans in general ... "the Government" in particular ... after all, 'the Government' is composed of Americans.
  • Dweezle ghostrider 2012/07/01 22:10:55
    Dweezle
Yes, to a point but do the people in Government (meaning elected representatives) represent working class Americans or special interests with deep pockets?
  • ghostrider Dweezle 2012/07/03 04:28:21
    ghostrider
Of course 'they' represent special interests ... but the point is inconsequential ... it's the arrogant attitude that "we" are "better"(superior) than "they" are ... in their heyday, the British had that same arrogance.

Ideally. But you cant rush things like this. I am all for pulling out, as long as it is at the right time
  • ghostrider Wolf97 2012/07/01 01:46:10

The right time was the day before we invaded.
  • Wolf97 ghostrider 2012/07/04 03:57:46

I agree with that. But its also irrelevant.

It's the best "right time" with which I can come up ... an alternative would be 'no later than tomorrow.'

If he were to pull out right now I would deem it a bad decision. You cant rush war. When we pull out it has to be in a responsible fasion. I was pleased with the job we did in Iraq.
  • ghostrider Wolf97 2012/07/05 20:48:23
    ghostrider
The invasion of Iraq was another total folly and useless loss of life, limb and treasury ... it, too, never should have occurred ... our (lack of) accomplishment of anything meaningful is proof of that.
  • Wolf97 ghostrider 2012/07/06 02:56:11
    Wolf97
That is not what we are talking about. Either stay with the conversation or dont talk at all. This thread is about if we should pull out right now, not if we ever should have invaded. Sorry to be mean but please get with the program.

To support our puppet Dictator. Supposedly make sure the Taliban do not get back into power.

The stupidity I see is that the same warlords are running the Government that ran it with the Taliban.

This is a catch 22, if we go we have to ask "was it worth it" if we stay what are the goals.
Macarthur was right “It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.” in ww1/ww2 the aims were clear, Korea,Vietnam, and Afghanistan the aims seemed clear but were impossible to carry out.
Its a mess, and for more soldiers to die in a war that cant be lost or won is not worth it.
These men and women gave their lives, they were very brave, but its time to come out because to stay makes it harder to get out!

Can someone, anyone tell me why we should fight this war? How can you win a war when you're dropping a $5000,00 bomb on a $100.00 target.

This thing is just getting started. Last year one of the biggest Air bases in the region broke ground for construction. It has a runway so long you could land a space shuttle on it. Say one thing do another. To bad so many soldiers had to live in those tents all those years. In Iraq, which started later basic housing was much better. Something is planned for Afghanistan but the just ain't saying what.

What is our endgame, realistically? Stay there until every Afghani who opposes our political and/or economic philosophy is dead? One of our military leaders brilliantly pointed out that 1,000 dead Taliban fighters and one dead civilian equals a loss for us, in the eyes of the Afghani’s and the world.

There is also the historical reality that no nation in history has ever won a war in Afghanistan. The terrain is too inhospitable, they know all the good hiding places, and they are simply too proud and stubborn to EVER simply give up.

And we can’t simply kill them all because we want their natural resources, which is really what this is all about in the first place. That would make us a nation of cruel, materialistic, greedy monsters.

We should leave as fast as possible, but for years we have been pressuring our allies to stay so we shouldn't speed up the departure until there is a general agreement to do so.
