No thanks, but I love for obumbo and his fellow communist, Muslim, and racists travelers to make a one way trip.

That is a great idea! We could have Pelosi the train wreck drive the thing straight into the crater of Olympus Mons.

I would definitely consider going to Mars, but I am absolutely sure that I would never survive going to Uranus.

LOL, it's a gazillion degrees there. WHY?

For those that said yes, do you know it would be suicide?

Uhm... -143 degrees C to 27 degrees C. I don't consider that suicide...I just consider that cold. We can also build completely insulated domes without issue, they're just expensive.

27's actually quite warm. Of course the former temps are probably more the norm.

All we need's a bit more atmosphere, some CO2 and methane, and we could greenhouse it up a bit. Mind, it would take a while, but every little bit helps, eh?

The trick is generating a magnetosphere to guard us from solar and cosmic radiation.
  • Crypt_H... Illjwamh 2012/08/04 15:55:18

Methane it already has =P Agreed though.

? You don't need any of those to have an atmosphere. *looks at Venus*. Water Vapour is however useful, as is Oxygen or rather o3 (aka Ozone)...food...is not necessary at all. Take it with.

There is no God, and so as humans, we must become gods ourselves. This means things like going to Mars, and creating nuclear fission, and reaching the Singularity.

Humanity must carve its own path in this harsh universe. We need to overcome everything until we ourselves can't be overcome.

Nope. That sounds like a one-way ticket to me. I'm also a husband and father, my responsibilities are here on earth!

Seriously? The risks of going to Mars and back successfully are not trivial, the chances of a malfunction are quite high!

So were the chances when we went to the moon, or built the International Space Station. But we did it. We went to the moon, and we have people living in space for months at a time.

Plus, even if you did die on Mars, it'd be an honor to be the first human to die on another planet.
  • Mr. Smith dePSyChO 2012/08/03 19:32:24
    Mr. Smith
I wouldn't have gone to the moon either. Not my cup of tea.

And I'm more honored being a father to my kids than being the first to die on another planet.......
  • dePSyChO Mr. Smith 2012/08/03 22:13:03
    dePSyChO
But going to the moon is just...can you not appreciate the magnitude of going to the moon? It's insanely amazing.

Then I guess it's just personal preference. I'd hope that my family would understand the honor of being the first human to die on another planet.
  • Mr. Smith dePSyChO 2012/08/03 22:59:23
    Mr. Smith
Not arguing the magnitude. It's one of the most amazing feats of human engineering and technology in the history of man-kind. No question.......but to be the human being going into space takes a certain type of person, I know that person is not me. And I'm not going to pretend it is and I'm not going to romanticize being the first to die on another planet, you're still dead, not good.......
  • dePSyChO Mr. Smith 2012/08/04 14:18:12
    dePSyChO
You'll die one day anyway, whether it's on the Moon or here on Earth, or even on Mars.
