We will go to Mars, and make a future for our species there and on worlds even more distant.

Or one day perish here on Earth.

    I vote we go.

mars future species worlds distant perish earth vote

I'm scared of suffocating so what if something goes wrong then I'm dead floating endlessy through space. Not to mention when we take off we'll go so fast that my ears will pop and that is a horrible feeling. Plus I'm just scarede of space although it is pretty.

If I could take my family with me, you bet! If not, nah, I'll stay here with them.

If I could convince them to send an aging man, whose body is no longer as capable as I wish it were - yes. I grew up expecting that man would be on Mars before the year 2000. I expected a colony on the moon, and real space stations. What do we have? Some silly little ten man tent floating around the earth, masquerading as a research station.

I would go as long as its save to live there, in its current state mars is quite deadly.

That's the reason for going - to MAKE it safe for future generations. TANSTAAFL

Had to use my bro google for this, thank you google.
TANSTAAFL means There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.

Anyway, its not much use going there if you are gonna die before accomplishing anything. Though I do like the idea of infecting other planets with the humanz I don't see how current day colonization of planets like Mars are do-able. Except for the moon perhaps.

Space is the final frontier and our only hope for survival as a species. Hell yes I would go to mars.

Yeah, I've watched the shows on what it would take to get there and the probable problems. I would not want to endure the pressures of long space travel with the tech at hand. Nor do I like the odds of survival and the total isolation from society it would encompass. Maybe in a few hundred years, but not now.

I don't want to contribute to the downfall of the Solar System. Look at what humans have done to the earth in their 100,00 years+ already. Luckily Mars is a wasteland already.

Machines break down all the time. When my car breaks down, I don't have to worry about getting help. If anything goes wrong with the buildings or your suit on Mars, you are SCREWED. I'm not going until there's a large underground, self-sustaining habitat.
  • lennon_love 2012/08/06 00:23:30

On a few conditions... but it'd be amazing to discover things about the universe before any other human in history (assuming the Mayans were NOT aided in their pyramid-making by aliens)!
  • c.stuar... lennon_... 2012/08/08 00:12:36
    That's an extremely safe assumption.

Hell YEAH!!! If we could get to the Moon on a 2 Mhz CPU with 2K RAM and only 36K ROM it should be easy.

Just make sure its a UNIX/Linux system and doesn't have any of that Windows crap interfacing the Command Systems.
  • Runaway ✩ Nomad58 2012/08/06 18:26:37

Heh - Linux Mint Debian would do well. Actually, any Unix-like. Yeah, you got it perfectly right!

When I was still programming weapon systems my team used stripped down Linux.
Fast and secure as hell plus cross-platform interface for any browser. I hooked into NATO easy as a hot knife sliding through butter.
  • c.stuar... Nomad58 2012/08/08 00:13:37
Wait, isn't Mars a Windows Free zone by UN agreement.
  • Nomad58 c.stuar... 2012/08/08 00:31:00
For God's sake let's hope so.
Let's make it a UN free zone too if its going to work.

I'd consider it very carefully as I'd be away from family for a long time and it's very dangerous. However, I think it's pretty likely I'd end up going.

Yes I would go to Mars as if I lived there I would have much more influence on what the new culture would be like than I could have on the culture I currently live in.
  • brian.s... No One 2012/08/06 13:11:47
No you wouldn't. If you don't have it now you won't have it at all. To get there you'd have to be subservient to someone else. Unless you organized a coup once you got there and had the means to defend your new claim. But by then the governments of the world will have you painted as a terrorist and a world of humans ready to defeat you. Nice dream though.
