Eleven-Year-Old Boy Ordained as Minister: Too Young... or Too Awesome?

When Ezekiel Stoddard was ordained as a minister at the Fullness of Time Church in Capitol Heights, Maryland, last month it was a unique celebration -- one that turned heads and raised questions. Why? Because Ezekiel is just 11 years old. According to "Good Morning America," the son of two pastors decided to become a minister at this very young age when God spoke to him in a dream.

The young minister said, "God gave me that particular scripture [Psalm 23] because a lot of people, they try to draw you away from the Lord, trying to get you on the wrong path." When asked if people thought it was strange, he said, "People come to you, they ask you questions about why you should act like a child and not a minister. I do things like a child, but still I am a minister. I am an evangelical." But do you think Stoddard is too young to take on the role of a minister?

I just think most atheist have a rather warped view of Christianity as compared to what most Christians really believe. I think because they get most of their ideas about Christianity from the news media and entertainment industry, which isn't even close. They like to show only the small hand full of hard core fundamentalist or the complete whack-jobs like the infamous Westborow Baptist Church type folks. Nothing those people do or believe is Christian. It's pure, backward, inbred, hate.

You may not believe (yet), but I'm still going to pray for you, if you don't mind.

I don't mind if you want to pray for me. While I agree that MOST atheist have gone too far in offending the religion of Christianity, I am not most people. I am one person. And while I don't believe in what you do, I can say from experience that there are a lot of people who jump to the same conclusion you did and assume that just because I'm not Christian that I have a warped view of it. And of course nothing they do is Christian, they arent Christian. If anything most atheists aren't backwards, inbred, hateful people. They're simply skeptics who weren't taught the same as you and/or refuse to let and idea "possess" their mind.

I didn't say you have a warped view. I have no idea of what your ideas about Christianity. But you seem to think you know Christians and that I let things "posses" my mind by some brainwash teachings. Guess what, I was not raised a Christian, so I was not taught at some young age to allow ideas to "posses" my mind. LOL! My parents never went to church and never really talked about God. I guess you could say they are agnostic at best. I found God through Jesus later on, but I'm no holly roller. Probably not a real good Christian. I cuss, I'll go out for drinks, I might leer at a hot woman, I have thoughts I probably shouldn't. Hey human's are a week lot and no man is righteous, but I regret my actions, ask for forgiveness, try to leave the wrong ways behind and work to become a better person, husband and father everyday.

Not some early brainwashing possessing my mind. LOL!

Robert October Bolt said "A belief is not merely an idea the mind possesses, it is an idea that possesses the mind." which is what I was referring. (I typed that before I read your comment) After reading your comment, OH MY UNIVERSE! SEE PEOPLE?! THAT IS WHAT IT IS! THAT IS LIFE! FINALLY! My only thing is I don't think you need religion for that, I don't think you need religion to tell you to just do the right thing

With they way the world is going, I not so sure.

You may not need religion to do the right thing on an individual basis, but it is a guide to keep you on the right path. it causes you to reflect, to think, and to put life into perspective bases on something higher than yourself. I also notice most religious people understand that a non-believer can be a good person and do the right thing and except them. But atheist have such a hard time excepting religious people. They hold an animosity and intolerance of spiritual or religious people. And, if truly atheist people don't believe in God, why do they spend so much of their time dwelling on it, speaking against it, and trying to disprove it. When I don't believe in something to be true, I ignore it and go on my way.

People deal with things differently, people grow up differently, people are taught different things, have different personalities. You just have to let them be them.

I write in rationality and fact. You call it hate because it disagrees with you.

I love every living thing. I hate ignorance and deception that spawns war and crime. Religion in general, and Christianity specifically, are some of the primary forces that foment ignorance and hate.

Hmm, strange, I looked back at all my posts and I never called anything "hate". Nice liberal, Saul Alinski tactic, but try again.

It seems your own hate for Christians and other religious people (I'm you hate the Jews too) is the only "hate" I'm seeing in this exchange. Truly religious followers of God don't spawn wars and crime. Hate filled, pathologically narcissistic, phsychopath that use religion as a reason do.

God has only allegedly "spoken" to one person and that was Moses. At any rate the kid is void of the requisite skills, to be functionally literate in biblical interpretation and systematic theology. Oops, forgot, so are many other so called ministers. The illiterate loop goes on and on and on.

The indoctrination of chldren before they develop discernment, when they incorporate myths from authority as truth, is the only reason organized religion thrives.

    sad.

This is nothing more, in my opinion, than pathetic attempt by a parent or both to attract attention to themselves .. a grasping hunger shared by stage parenting the world over... no different than muslims or supposed christians or whatever putting condemnation of others into the hands of babies who do not even understand what that means .. such as the wearing of garb and bearing weapons to murder christians or other muslims or indeed any infidels ... or baptist children holding up a book on a stage telling adults and other children God condemns them all ... And as an widely known public example this makes me wonder what sort of upbringing did Obamas minister Rev. Wright have as he grew up? Condemning others for adultery when he himself committed it , and condemning an entire nation to condemnation ... and so on and on.... priests condemning others .. minister after minister...

Shallow and sad manipulative amoral users. Cruel use of innocent beings too young to voice personal protest because they may know there would be MORE manipulation to force them into remaining on stage so mommy and or daddy or whomever can claim acclaim..or they simply do not understsand what is being done to them..

I think we can learn a lot from children but not by being told what is the truth and what isn't when I doubt he knows the difference. I'm sure he's a great kid but children shouldn't be telling people what to believe and what is right and wrong at that age they should be figuring it out themselves.

At such a young age, he is simply incapable of the complex thought required of theological philosophy. Hell, most adults and many ministers are incapable of it. All he knows is what he's been taught, and there is no moral reasoning on his part. He is too young to understand many of the challenges others face and their frame of minds.

However, from the state of religion in America this was coming. Religion is no longer genuine moral reasoning, but the simple memorization of scripture, mythology, and the ridged adherence to doctrinal beliefs. Fundamentalism is a toxic strain that manifest in all faiths, but has become rather resilient in the US despite our advancements in science and moral evolution.

Because to only study one belief is very narrow minded. They're are other opinions concerning religion and you can never know how you truly feel about creationism, and what you really believe if you don't know as much on the subject as you can...

Children are not mature enough to make *all* decisions for themselves. Something such as religious beliefs shouldn't be decided upon until the person making the decision really understands their choices. How many children are exposed to more than one religion before they are forced into one religion or another? How many really get to choose?
