Eleven-Year-Old Boy Ordained as Minister: Too Young... or Too Awesome?

When Ezekiel Stoddard was ordained as a minister at the Fullness of Time Church in Capitol Heights, Maryland, last month it was a unique celebration -- one that turned heads and raised questions. Why? Because Ezekiel is just 11 years old. According to "Good Morning America," the son of two pastors decided to become a minister at this very young age when God spoke to him in a dream.

The young minister said, "God gave me that particular scripture [Psalm 23] because a lot of people, they try to draw you away from the Lord, trying to get you on the wrong path." When asked if people thought it was strange, he said, "People come to you, they ask you questions about why you should act like a child and not a minister. I do things like a child, but still I am a minister. I am an evangelical." But do you think Stoddard is too young to take on the role of a minister?

That's true, maybe I just didn't get that calling when i was young :( Maybe God saw that I was too immature.

I find myself wondering, is he really preaching about how he feels in his heart or is he mimicing what his parents do and say? With kids things like this are always questionable. I remember getting baptized around his age and I did it for attention. I really didn't understand much about Jesus. All I knew was how happy everyone would be. Here I am at 25 and don't even consider myself a Christian anymore. I found who I was and THAT was not me. That was me trying to fit into what everyone else was doing.

This is wrong. Religion shouldn't be allowed to target children. Children are stupid and dont question anything, it becomes ingrained in their minds as truth when it is falsehood. This child will grow up as a priest of lies.

As I agree with you on he is too young, I disagree when you say children are stupid. Mine are far from it and question everything...but then again, I am their mother.

Honestly if the kid truly wants to be than sure why not, if he really does believe and didn't have it forced or beat into him. But he's only 11, he's got a lot he can still do, and should still do, young children should be learning not teaching, and they should be out having fun.

As a child of approximately 12 Jesus amazed the so called "learned Biblical" scholars, with His wisdom and understanding of the scriptures, however Jesus did not begin His public ministry until age 30. I belive there is a lesson here.

Jesus Christ was 12 years old before He did anything remarkable, and even then He was asking questions, not giving answers.

Honestly--no offense--but how much can the kid really know about what he's saying?

It's disgusting that his parents would make this decision for him at such a young age! No 11 year old child has had a chance to decide for themselves if they think God is real or bullsh!t so to have him ordained at this age is absolutely wrong!

He's too young to really give any of his own insight, I mean, an eleven-year-old is just going to say what they were taught.. not really contributing anything in terms of insight.. I don't think that children should even be indoctrinated into religion, it should be something that someone chooses when they're capable of really understanding a religion.
Just let kids be kids until they worry about having a job

I refuse to say that he's too young. In my opinion, age doesn't determine how you act. But, I also believe that he shouldn't be ordained that young. Mostly because it does nothing good for him. He can't really give meaningful insight on anything other than what he thinks he read. It's not opinion, it's just a fact. He hasn't had the chance to actually go out into the world and experience his own personal choices and beliefs, without his parents forcing God down his throat. It will do nothing, but cripple him consciously, and hold him back from becoming a man of his own mind. I'm sorry, but I think this is wrong. He can love God all he wants, but he shouldn't be given this title and responsibility at such a young age. It's nothing but a shackle.

So, maturity is just a clever hoax...right?
  • Z-Wolf closinyou 2012/06/24 22:45:45
    Z-Wolf
Of course not. But, at the same time, experience matures you. Experiencing different opinions and perspectives matures you. If you have none of that, I'd say you were as mature as a newborn babe. That goes for anyone who hasn't had the chance to gain a proper view of the world.

So would you say he has the experience necessary to lead a congregation in areas such as, giving, budgeting, evangelizing, serving others, mission work, community involvement, council, staffing, or any other responsibility of a minister/pastor?

If not, what is the primary reason, he would lack the experience required?
  • Z-Wolf closinyou 2012/06/25 06:42:33
    Z-Wolf
What I'm saying is that he lacks references and insight. That which you can only gain by learning different religions and perspectives. Without that, he's just as ignorant as a majority of the world. And by being bestowed that title so young, it'll do nothing for him and just lead him on a short and pointless path.

Since he will be a part of new generation, we need to weed out ignorance early. Al they're doing is creating another blind follower who can hardly speak for himself without misquoting a tale he barely understands.

I don't know about you, but I find that ridiculous. i would even go as far as to call it appalling. Especially, because I thought we were past the point where we would teach people to follow instead of attempt to lead.

I'm not saying that he's too young. You can't soundly claim that someone is too young for something like this. But, with logic I can infer that he hasn't spent much time around the Atheist, Agnostic, Scientific, etc communities. Which means like many people, he is too inexperienced to give proper insight into religion.

There is ONLY ONE logical reason as to why he lacks experience!

HERE'S A QUOTE BY YOUR ROLE MODEL AS DEPICTED IN YOUR PROFILE,
"“I couldn’t find any meaning in my life when I was out there. I’m sure as hell not going to find it in here. This is the grand finale of a life poorly spent and the end result is just overwhelmingly depressing … it’s just a sick, pathetic, wretched, miserable life story, that’s all it is. How it can help anyone, I’ve no idea.”

    THIS DESCRIBES MINE,
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved. Ephesians 1:3-6

When you yourself grow up... you'll realize how foolish you're being!

I can't believe you thought my hero was Jeffrey Dahmer!

    Followed by a ridiculous quote!

Then you had the nerve to call me foolish? Saying that I need to grow up? Me?

You obviously had no other piece to add to this argument because you're an idiot! You went searching through my profile for something, and came up with, 'she idolizes Jeffrey frickin' Dahmer'.

Honestly, if you really want to know. That picture was made up of the things that made me who I am today. My love for anime, my respect for animals, my pet ferret Galileo, the fact that I'm bisexual, and even my ability to fall in love so fully and helplessly. Yet you assumed that I idolized a serial killer?

You obviously need to be enlightened. His reason for being in that picture is because when I was younger I had heard all about this guy. And people like him. Through my studies on the subject, I realized that i wanted to be a lawyer, and later a district attorney, who could prosecute and put people like him behind bars. He made me who I am, well his story did, because I want to one day have the satisfaction of ultimately putting away a killer for life. since you couldn't get the hint when you see him in court and in an orange jumpsuit. How about next time, you stay on topic and actually use your brain?

Do you hope to put an end to the "gay agenda" as well? Or is that picture there for the opposite reason?
Your nonsensical, mindless and twisted reality is one I'll never forget! No offense but I don't believe a word of what you say! You prove to be immature, irrational and presumptuous and confused!

If you ever make past your elementary mentality and in fact do become a lawyer, I recommend the strategy you employ here. Just call everyone stupid! I'm sure that will those killers locked up!

it is kind of crazy. Though, the picture itself is titled: Mixed Awesomeness. Which is supposed to explain how different mixes of things, or the different interests and goals that make me up, are what makes me so awesome.

if you honestly have trouble understanding something so simple, then i would suggest you talk to a doctor about that. What it sounds like, is you have trouble believing that I DON'T worship a serial killer. Is that honestly what you want? You have this unhealthy need to make me out as a bad person, for not believing that a religiously sheltered child should preach religious insight might I add, that is so strong, that you'd shamelessly claim that I idolize a serial killer/pedophile?! Something must be honestly wrong with you. You are a real mudslinger aren't you?

I don't really get how you can still claim that i'm the immature one here. That's a great strategy! As a lawyer, you don't actually need to call people stupid, you just need to prove it. Which in this, I have proved it to be true about you several times. I just had to literally call you it, so you'd realize it. You sound so ridiculous though, honestly, get a clue.

Do you always resort to ad Hominem when someone doesn't think exactly the way you do? If so, your advice is better suited for you. Do I have trouble understanding something so simple? No, I sure don't! On the other hand, do you honestly have trouble understanding that your collage isn't as clear to everyone else as it is to you? So much so, that you see fit to attack the person who, according to you, misunderstood it's meaning?
When you grow up, you will find that calling others stupid or making claims of proof while offering zero proof really does more harm than it does good! Right now, your young, childish, developing mind convinces you that lies you tell are true as long as you say they are! I would strongly suggest reconsidering career paths. I won;t go into detail, but you don't have what it takes to be a lawyer! Lying and projecting you've got mastered! Ridiculous animations to do the talking for you... that won't help you in the real world!
Good luck, none the less. Take care!

Once again, you sound ridiculously hypocritical. You're the one who decided to claim something as silly as me idolizing a criminal, to get it across that you're right. Even though you have done nothing but deflect every ounce of explanation given to you.

I don't see a reason to attack you for not understanding. But, you claiming that my explanation is crap, warrants some expression of annoyance.

I've grown up already. I suggest you at least attempt the same. Especially with your constant delusional idiocy. Don't think I care about your opinion on my career choice. You of all people?! Ha!

Here's another picture for your wall. Nothing is more awesome than this! He did that for YOU. Has anyone else died for you? Has anyone else loved you so much that, in order for you to believe and be saved he gave his life and then proved his power by overcoming death. All so you could have eternal life?

There's no hate in my writing. Just extreme surprise at your ignorance. I don't want everyone to be like me, but I sadly can't say the same for you. Especially with your strong persistence in trying to get everyone around you to conform to a flawed and violent religion.

Actually someone has died for me. Which shouldn't be taken lightly by anyone. Especially the likes of you. Someone who is constantly trying to force their religion. Also, I don't have eternal life, no matter how much people like you would believe; no one does. Get off that pedestal and get a life.

All of which are impossible in a naturalistic view. However, completely possible when God is accepted. This whole thing started, solely because I said that obviously he wasn't gained enough insight on religion in general, thus not making him qualified as a minister, with the title only being able to hinder him later, with you claiming that i just think he's too young and won't admit it.

Actually, sharing your views isn't forcing a religion. But, claiming that something like the crucifixion of Jesus Christ happened, first off, without any proof, and secondly, while barking it at someone who's page you trolled, and who you obviously know doesn't believe the same thing is.

I know you might not be as smart as you want to believe. But honestly, if you ave this much trouble understanding things, you could just Google it.

It's nothing more than pure intellectual suicide to assert that Jesus crucifixion never happened. You may as well say that George Washington was never President and Columbus never sailed!

It's actually not. There are many people who believed it didn't actually happen as you imagine it. From the picture you posted, you probably imagine a crown of thorns, and nails, and just gruesome pain. Which isn't necessarily true. Also, those are terrible comparisons. Both of those can be proven without a doubt, and without trouble. What you claim cannot.

I don't get my information from Google, even though it is fast. I get it from a library most of the time. You learn more there. But, for someone like you, Google may be of some use.

Just like how i bet you didn't know that when translated the word you use to describe crucifixion, simply means suspension. Read the actual texts, and not just the bible you found at Walmart. Maybe then you can actually do some research.
