Do you think voters should have to pass a written test in order to vote?

Some people don't have a clue whats going on in our country.

A a reporter ask some of Obama supporters, What do you think of Paul Ryan ,Obama's pick for his Vice President?

They said they thought he would be a great V.P. I'm sorry but these ignorant people

don't have a clue what kind of mess our Nation is even in. It would be great if these people had some sort of education. WATCH DEBATES AND FOX NEWS

It's everyone's right to vote. And who would be the judge as to who would be ignorant or not. There are a lot of ignorant people here on SH, should all of them be required to take a test? Just asking. Sounds like the Republicans are trying to suppress the vote as we speak, that's certainly not OK with me nor should it be OK with anyone.

I am pretty sure some of the people who have voted yes would not pass the test either. The things I hear from Romney supporters on this site is absolutely ridiculous.

It would probably be a good idea, but it would be biased against working/underclass people then it could turn into a technocracy, the educated people could end public education to keep the poor powerless and subjugated... I think a better idea would be to let everyone vote, but have people take a test where if they pass they can vote directly for policies.

    Ummm hello... Electoral College?

While I believe there are many uninformed or stupid voters there are out there who believe anything that is told to them... I refuse to suggest that Fox News is a place for legimate and valid information.

This is a very biased poll as even though you have multiple options one option is made to look worse than the other. You yourself would actually not be allowed to vote if there a written voting test that was actually fair as you think Paul Ryan is Obama's running mate when he is actually Romney's running mate. Obviosely if you were to set up a voting test it would backfire on you as it would be the kind that would prevent you from voting. Also FOX is not a reliable source of news.

I think that's a great idea, this country is in the shape that its in because of total stupidity and may be in even worse shape when and if the same group of people vote this president back into office.

Yes, also only property owners should be permitted to vote and Presidents should be elected by the Electoral College only and Senators should be elected by the State's general Assemblies. Repeal 17 now

Ignorance can easily be resolved by being informed...and Yes a test would be a great idea, we are required to take on in order to drive so doing so to vote makes sense to me!

There was a period in our history when tests were required. That period was called Jim Crow. The tests were ruled to be unconstitutional.

I assume you are prepared to create the test yourself. I also assume you have targeted the people you want to exclude. Your comparison of driving and voting is telling.

Telling?? Oh so you would like to see everyone behind the wheel of a motor vehicle with no license??? Yes I think I could very well create a simple test....and I bet I could make it multiple choice and still so many would fail it!!

It is telling that you consider yourself above The Constitution. Jim Crow laws in the South were ruled unconstitutional and in fact, the Southern States are forbidden to enact voting laws without first passing the proposals before the Supreme Court.

That's actually a fair point and I believe another US President said something along the lines of:
"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." (Benjamin Franklin btw)

Yes, the founding fathers certainly knew that there would be corrupt politicians like Obama who would use the people's money to buy votes by bailing out businesses, banks ect. That is why they created a system for us to wouldn't allow politicians to become presidents. Unfortunately our ancestors changed that so we are stuck with this horrible two party system.

Your idea is just another form of voter suppression. We are not a people of the smartest rule, nor the dumbest either.

We are a government by and for ALL the people. It then becomes ALL citizens to be made aware of what it is that is going on.

For democracy to work it needs an informed and literate voter base. Now, the vote is a God given right. Ignorance and stupidity is also a God given state of mind. It is easier to be ignorant, stupid, emotionally bias and led like a lamb to the slaughter. So we will always have a largely acrimonious bias voter population ignorant of this nation's history, culture and intentions of our creation as described in Constitution, Bill of Rights and other early directional documents.

If voters had to pass a writtian test in order to vote, Romney would be forced to throw in the towell, and resign himself to another loss. Few conservatives would be able to pass the test.
