London tabloid News of the World released a video showing the Dutchess of York Sarah Ferguson taking a cash payment from an undercover reporter for access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew.
The Dutchess did not dispute the allegations that she accepted a down payment of $40,000 and expected about $724,000 more from a reporter disguised as a wealthy businessman. In the video, she tells Mazher Mahmood that she the enormous amount of money she was asking would "open doors" for him, and that he would receive, in return, tenfold in profits. Sarah Ferguson's ex-husband Prince Andrew is Britain's special trade representative.
In a statement, Sarah Ferguson said: "I very deeply regret the situation and the embarrassment caused. It is true that my financial situation is under stress, however, that is no excuse for a serious lapse in judgment."
