Drug-Resistant Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 19 Ground Beef Eaters

★~DoctorWhoGuru~★ 2012/01/07 01:53:54

ineteen have fallen ill with drug-resistant salmonella after eating a bad batch of ground beef, reportsFood Safety News. The AP writes:

PORTLAND, Maine — A total of 19 people from seven states have become sick from salmonella linked to ground beef sold by Hannaford supermarket.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday most of the victims indicated they bought the beef between Oct. 12 and Dec. 10.

The Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford supermarket chain announced on Dec. 15 that it was recalling ground beef with a sell-by date of Dec. 17 or earlier.

The CDC says the recalled beef may still be in consumers' homes. The company says customers should return or dispose of ground beef with the Dec. 17 or earlier sell-by dates.

In addition to Maine, Hannaford has stores in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.

So far 19 people in those states and Kentucky and Hawaii have become sick.

Three of those who'd eaten the beef and fallen ill have reportedly hired law firm Simon & Luke, experts in food safety litigation, on retainer, in case they should decide to sue Hannaford.

The FDA moved to stop raisers of livestock from administering a certain form of antibiotics to animals on Wednesday, in an effort to curb the spread of just this sort of drug-resistant bacteria. It now looks like they made that decision not a moment too soon.

It happens not dismissing it but considering the amount of food processed and handled throughout the world every day we are not doing badly not so.
Rather worry about Road Safety that is mass murder world wide.

People insist on eating raw meat. Cook it until it is competely done, and you wont get sick.

Or buy free-range, grass fed. There's a huge difference in the taste. Shame it's about 25% more expensive.

Healthy food is always more expensive. Keeps doctors in business when we eat crap.

True, but I've been eating Paleo for a while and have never felt better. Not eating junk and paying a little more for the good stuff seems to balance out. That doesn't mean I don't still look at a baked potato and sour cream with utter longing. lol

Oh, ya. I was thinking about having a baked potato with some chili, cheese, butter and sour cream. Love it.

Food would be a lot safer if people weren't scared of irraidation. And of course, there's those who think they're going to get rich off of it, like it's the grocery store's fault. Simple, don't buy cheap hamburger. Know where your food comes from.

Another dammed good reason for you wingnuts to post your rants here and demand that the FDA be disbanded. This wouldn't have happened, according to your logic, were it not for the FDA. Those who ground up the tainted beef would have tested it and threw it all away, as they have always done before there was a Federal Agency. We all know that 'allowing the Govy to take samples of meat in a private plant is an invasion of the "rights" under the Constitution, and there is not a specific provision in that document giving the Govy authority to sample a food going into the marketplace. Those sick people are just more "victims" of those "socialist" and "communist" schemes to prevent private businesses from hiring more people and selling more meat. Vote "Republican" in 2012 and put an end to these awful happenings.

I don't see this getting better unless we change how animals are handled and slaughtered.
