Doug Wead – Shocker: Ron Paul And Rule 40, The New Romney Nightmare

At least one of the cats is out of the bag. The story is now public that an obscure, overlooked GOP rule, passed in January, 2008, has opened the way for Ron Paul delegates to place his name in nomination for vice president at the RNC in Tampa. And maybe for president? Experts say no. More on that.

Rule 40 came at a time in 2008 when there was concern that the GOP presidential field would be split between candidates Huckabee, McCain, Romney, Thompson, Giuliani and Paul, with no one candidate winning a majority in five states. It was accepted that this possibility was remote, due to the sequential power of successive caucus and primary victories which would winnow the field and give one or two candidates momentum but the deadlock was at least a mathematical possibility.

The rule change declared that only a plurality within a delegation, not a majority, was needed in five states to place a name in nomination. It means that a candidate can be nominated for president or vice president if he or she has the most delegates in at least five states. It is a threshold that Ron Paul has very possibly passed. And it may explain why the Romney forces have been apoplectic, even self defeating, in their crushing of the duly elected Ron Paul delegates at the various remaining state conventions.

Romney people insist that it is all a moot point in the presidential contest since Ron Paul delegates in many states are bound to vote for Romney if he was the winner of their primary. Although curiously, Romney sees no problem in taking delegates in states such as North Dakota where Ron Paul beat him.

I am not a fan of cable talking heads, but months back I tuned in when Maddow interviewed Doug Wead, Paul chief strategist. NIce manand good interview. Wead was very confident that there is a pathway for Ron Paul at the convention and laid it out very clearly about the delegate count . He was positive Ron Paul would exceed what is necessary. Apparently he has, but the Republican Party still seems confused about who won certain states. How can that be? Also, why on earth would Rand Paul support someone like Mitt Romney?

The Romney campaign is digging its own grave. He won't release his tax returns (which could potentially clear his name... or expose serious criminal action), his attacks on Obama are eating up his campaign's resources (Obama has a very loyal voter base), he may be facing legal discipline from the failed disclosure of Bain Capital documents to voter fraud and intimidation and on top of that his rather dubious record keeps adding fuel to the Obama smear fires. This is going to be an interesting election, folks; I've never seen politics this divided before.

i fail to understand why the people are limited by the 2 choices picked FOR them as candidates. the people need to pick who they want for the job!

People can vote for anyone they so desire for any office.
Political parties choose their own candidates.

Notice how little Publicity is given to Jill Stein ? Now qualified for matching federal funds.

The Green Party’s Stein joins a number of other opposition party Presidential candidates already nominated by their respective parties for the November general election. Most notable among them are Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party and Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party. Both men were Republicans as of last year, but fled the GOP with droves of other voters who insist they’re tired of the elite establishment’s grip on the grand old party.
