You can read his remarks....and on some levels he is correct. To actually attempt to deny that their was no racism involved in WWII in the Pacific against the Japanese....is to deny that the sun comes up in the east!!
The Japanese were racists....not only towards us, but all other Asians....they were the Pacific's Nazi's....and if you weren't Japanese, you weren't squat....and deserved death just because you weren't Japanese.
It would seem that today the "historical revisionists" are trying to white wash what happened during the WWII years..... Sad, but true. Few Americans understand the level of the brutality beaten into and ingrained into Japanese soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who would gladly and willingly die for the Emperor....and the general brutality that they experienced from their superiors.
We, as Americans...have a number of racist prejudices that we tend to keep in check for the most part. To deny that fact is to claim the "Denial" is a river in Egypt. We trained our troops to go after them with an equal vengeance and with a racist bent geared to their total destruct...

I have often found it amazing...that despite the total inhumanity and brutality shown by Japanese troops during WWII towards civilians and our military alike....that we still consider them "friends and buy their products" like we can't get enough!!
Face it.... the Japs were fierce, tenacious, cruel and determined as a foe. It required us to be the same way....we also used flamethrowers and napalm on them...... Can't remember us doing that to the Germans.....
Study the reality of WWII in the Pacific....and you will find out the truth!
Maybe Hanks should crack a history book.
