Does Your Vote Matter if You Live in a Red State or a Blue State?

Every presidential election year in recent memory comes down to the same crucial swing states: Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Colorado and Nevada... give or take a state or two.

I live in California, so I don't think it really matters who I vote for because the Democrat will almost always win, due to California being a blue state. Of course, I always do vote because it's my civic responsibility, but does it really even matter if you live in an entrenched "red" (Republican) or "blue" (Democrat) state?

CNN.COM reports:
The CNN Electoral Map is CNN's best estimate of the key states that will likely decide the 2012 presidential election. The map will be updated as the campaign progresses. Use the map to predict which candidate will win each state and see who reaches 270 electoral votes first.

Not really. Only if you live in a swing state.

I do and I plan to vote.

I am non-union so I will only be voting once.

Did I ever say anything about Romney? Was there even a mention of him in my post? You seem to be hallucinating, get some help. Romney is just another part of the same old boys club. Obama and Romney will enact the exact same policies, just like Obama continued and expanded all of Bush's policies.

I don't feel like my vote matters for two reasons:
    1. Utah is always always red, as long as I can remember.
    2. No matter who I vote for, I don't feel like my interests are represented.

My comment consists of I am fairly apathetic. I am going to vote because if you do not vote you can't bitch. I ask my friends when they complain about government I ask ,"did you vote", if their answer is no than I tell them to shut up. They have no business complaining when they could have changed things had they voted. That is the beauty of democracy it works where ever you are.

But nobody would give a d&%$ if you did, and you should not because you have no right to do so because you have not done your civic resposibility to make your democracy work.

I believe in our system of government, and that it is one's civic responsibility to vote in every election. Certainly if you do not vote, you cannot not complain. I can remember when California elected Ronald Reagan governor. He wasn't a Democrat, and absolutely things can change. Demographics change over time. I think the problem in California and Nevada in recent years has been that illegal immigrants are voting.

No.... but I also will vote anyway! Here's one bit of GOOD news for Romney supporters though! Because of the New Census, he has already picked up 11 electoral votes should he continue to carry Florida and North Carolina! For ALL the increase in population has gone to states that have typically gone Conservative while ONLY Liberal states have seen reductions in census counts!

Or, that's like saying Romney has already WON the electoral equivilent of a Missouri! :)

I live in New Jersey, which many claim to be a blue state but I see it as a mix-up state. I know about as many conservatives as I do liberals in New Jersey and surely their votes do count (I just don't want them to because I despise Mitt Romney..) O__o

You can like or dislike Barack Obama, but if you like Romney... well... have fun with that...

Because if you're not too lazy to read and fill out the whole ballot, your vote really does matter a whole lot in determining who's gonna be your US Senator and Representative, and probably more important to the quality of your life and community, your State Legislator, and County Commissioner/Supervisor, Mayor, City Council, Governor, Sheriff, Treasurer, and small army of other State and Local elected officials who have a lot more opportunity and interest in effecting your life directly than the POTUS ever will. Not to mention the ballot referendums, measures, initiatives, propositions, and bond issues on the plate in November. All of which are arguably more influential in your home town than DC hacks like Turkey-neck Reid, or Dear John Boner.

Every single legitimate vote matters, very much so. A state becomes an "entrenched red state or entrenched blue state" only because so many of a particular party get out and vote. But there is a pretty hefty percentage of citizens in every state who simply don't vote at all, period.

Now picture this scenario. Let's just say we've got a major blue (Dem) state. Pretty much everybody anticipates a Democratic victory. But then comes along the Republican candidate and his team happens to hit upon a campaign strategy that goes through the roof and captures the hearts of many of the opposition, who in turn vote red instead of blue. And the state then becomes changed from blue to red in this example.

So when it comes to historical facts concerning American elections, I listen and take note of the predictions, but I will never bet my hard-earned dollar that the prediction is going to turn out to be true simply because the basic premise (color of the state) is based on such a small percentage of actual voters versus head count of citizens. And everybody knows human beings are not 100% predictable.

Until Popular votes replace the Electoral College process I'm just pissin in the wind.
    Every vote should count.
If 1000 vote for one and 999 vote for the other, 1000 should win.
But we know that's not always the case.

And Yes, I do still vote.

"Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything."

Recently, Princeton did a study on the "Hackability" of our voting machines...you know...the machines we won't let Afghanis or Iraqis vote with because the machines are not trusted...but we use them here...presumably because some company in Spain has the contract to count our votes.
Wait...What!? Is there nothing we won't outsource? Is it because we have a shortage of people in this country who can count? Or do they just want to make sure that whoever counts the votes will follow orders rather than their conscience?
Then again, does it really matter?
In another absurd news item yesterday, Allen West was making noise over Obama's attempt to disrespect our troops with some rule that might have an affect on absentee ballots.
Well, since over 76% of all political contributions from the troops went to Ron Paul, seems to me the RNC already did the disrespecting of our troops when they used every dirty trick in the book in almost every state caucus to prevent a Ron Paul nomination. Our troops earn their citizenship and should get first pick of their Commander in Chief.
Look, I'm sure Romney's a great guy. And if he "wins", at least we'll be able to talk smack about the President witho...

If our vote mattered it would be illegal. “Presidents are selected, not elected.” ― Franklin D. Roosevelt

If people really don't understand this after the Obama fiasco, they are really under strong delusion and ripe for chumpdom by Romney. Red state/ blue state is just minutia.
