Does the drop in crime have anything to do with the surge in gun sales?

Since Barack Obama assumed control of the U.S. government, gun sales have surged.

The U.S. has experienced a drop in crime which goes against the narrative repeated by liberals that recessions and 'gun proliferation' increase crime.

In reality, recessions have little to do with crime rates but it seems gun ownership may:

Last week, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
announced that violent crime decreased 4 percent in 2011. The number of
murders, rapes, robberies and aggravated assaults all went down,
continuing a pattern.

“This is not a one-year anomaly, but a steady decline in the FBI’s violent-crime rates,” said Andrew Arulanandam, spokesman for the National Rifle Association. “It would be disingenuous for anyone to not credit increased self-defense laws to account for this decline.”

Mr. Arulanandam
pointed out that only a handful of states had concealed-carry programs
25 years ago, when the violent-crime rate peaked. Today, 41 states
either allow carrying without a permit or have “shall issue” laws that
make it easy for just about any noncriminal to get a permit.

I am not a gun-guy but I support the second amendment to the US constitution as it was intended to apply to US citizens.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice studies through their own National Institute of Justice /Bureau of Justice Statistics, and the FBI Uniform Crime Report, every year for the last two decades, there are fewer and declining violent crimes and fewer and declining gun accidents where law abiding citizens are allowed to keep and bear arms, both at home and in public. Essentially, according to NIJ/BJS and the FBI, more guns = less crime.

Note too that the safest and most responsible segments of our society are the 10 million+ law abiding citizens with concealed carry permits. They are safer and more responsible in the safe and proper use of firearms than even the American law enforcement community.

It's been said that the thing criminals fear most are not police, not jail time, but the possibility of harming/attacking an armed citizen. It's agree. And gun control does nothing but disarm the law-abiding citizens, making it easier to target them proud support of 2nd amendment

its called protection, the most people that own guns are not looking for a gun fight or to use them unless forced to do so, good post and its nice to see crime is dropping as a result of spiked gun sales, means that fighting for your rights as a person is becoming more and more popular amongst the peasants. funny they will most likely say they are prepping for when the shtf, not for the situation of a burglar, more people fear the government than they do the criminals, is that making a statement as to the identity of the real criminals if more people fear government than condemned men and women

Not at all. Just because two things happen, doesn't mean those two things are related.

That'd be like saying higher ice cream sales lead to more rapes. The rates of both increase during the summer, so there's got to be a relation there, right? (sarcasm)

No No No. If there were higher ice cream sales there would be more fat women that would make them less sexually desirable, there for the number of rapes would decline.
  • Nate Hu... paul 2012/06/20 18:20:28
    Nate Hubert
Lol. Or, there would be more fat men, which would make *them* less desirable, and so therefore the number of rapes really would increase.

Every year in the United States there are over a million people who have to rely on their guns to protect them selves. About half of them are in their homes. If it weren't for the right to bear arms we might have a million more deaths in this country every year.
Here in New Jersey we are second to California when it comes to strictest gun laws. We also are second in the country for the highest crime rate.
Hillary Clinton, Cass Sunstein and Eric Holder have made it clear to the public that they are not in favor of citizens owning guns. Yes, the Democrats and this administration are the reason gun sales have surged in the past three years.

Yes, just ask the woman who shot dead, a guy at 4am in her bedroom with her pink, pearl handled derringer. He would have claimed he was just waiting for a bus and his defense lawyers would have gotten him off. Get ready, the police can't do it all, you are responsible for your own protection.

    BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!

The police seldom arrive in time to even arrest a suspect, much less USE their guns.
And if a police officer actually *NEEDED* a gun for a call, doesn't logic suggest that the victim the call was made for, needed a gun as well?

THE POLICE HAVE NO DUTY TO PROTECT INDIVIDUALS:

“Law enforcement agencies and personnel have no duty to protect individuals from the criminal acts of others.” -Lynch vs North Carolina Department of Justice 1989

This means that if you want protection from violent crime, for you and your loved ones; it’s up to *YOU* and *YOU ALONE* to provide it.

One should always ask themselves this question, in their heart of hearts: "Why should a cop risk his life to save something so insignificant (your life or the lives of your loved ones), that even the owner is unwilling to protect it?"

Criminals never go into anything unless they think they have the upper hand. A gun in the hands of a householder gives said householder the upper hand, or at least an equal shot. (Pun intended.) Therefore the criminal does not strike.

Look at what we're dealing with Holder.

Law abiding folks can defend themselves, but look also at where Zimmerman is, when Martin was bashing his head into the concrete.

Another reason crime might be down is it isn't reported.

Did you hear about the 27 year old white lady who was delivering a pizza to a black lady and a black teenage boy? They (the blacks) stabbed her to death 50 times.

She (the victim) was delivering pizzas to try and support her little 3 year old girl. How often did anyone hear that on FOX News or any other news channel???

I'll tell you why it should get more publicity: It is because these blacks killed a young mother-savagely stabbed her 50 times for no damn reason-the lady was delivering a pizza to them.
Zimmerman is charged with murder over Martin, when Martin was banging Zimmerman's brains out on the concrete. Look what a big overblown thing this was.
This young mother leaves behind a little girl. How do you feel about that? Those two
are monsters. It would not make any difference what damn color they were-they murdered this young lady. The fact is tho, they are black and the media could care less.
