In an interview with ABC News, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie discussed the issue of his weight, saying, "It's a really difficult thing to deal with." The Republican governor said, "I've been living with it for a long time, and I'm going to try to get better." He added, "And if I can get better, that'll be great for me and for my family and for the public who likes me ... it's something that's not easy. If it were easy, I'd already have it fixed.” Christie signaled that he's never considered gastric bypass surgery as a viable solution to address his weight, calling the procedure "too risky."

Losing weight can be very difficult and cannot be done overnight. He didn't gain the weight overnight.

This is a tough one for me, for I now have to admit my bias when it comes to the obese. I believe that the obese are a big part of the reason our health care cost are so high and I believe that if you can't fit in one seat on a plane you should pay for two. That being said, I do believe being obese shows a lack of willpower, but Chris Christie's absence of tact and out-right rudeness has nothing to do with his weight.

I tend to agree with your viewpoints. Chris Christie's morbid obesity only serves to uphold the conventional wisdom that he's a bombastic buffoon. And you're 100% correct in saying that the large percentage of Americans who are overweight are putting an undue burden on the American health care system. The inherent medical problems associated with obesity, such as heart attack, high cholesterol, stroke, type 2 diabetes, etc., put a burden on every American taxpayer. Thanks for your comments, politicaljunkie!

Oh, I'm pretty sure that Chris Christie has a custom-made chair in his office in the capitol building so he can sit his fat ass down. I'd sure hate to invite him to a dinner party! He'd bogart the buffet table and break the chairs! Thanks for your response, CAROLYN, and have a beautiful day!

I'm glad to oblige! I was joking that if [God forbid!] Chris Christie ever became the president, they'd have to haul the old William Howard Taft bathtub out of the White House basement!

It's most likely a sign of lack of exercise and not eating healthy or just overeating. He should keep his mouth closed (food out) and his body in motion. Being that heavy is just asking for trouble.

Perhaps Chris Christie could reasonably reduce his caloric intake of food, but you couldn't get him to keep his mouth closed if you put a 9mm to his head. This guy sure does like the sound of his own voice. Thanks for your comments, Giantfan, and have a great evening!

Unless Governor Chris Christie has a "thyroid" problem (which is rare), then I think he lacks the discipline and willpower to lose weight. I don't understand why he says gastric bypass surgery is "too risky." Granted, any surgical procedure can be iffy, but being so morbidly obese is setting Christie up for a heart attack, stroke or other weight-related health problem. Bottom line, the guy needs to shed some serious L-B's.
