rching the slow erosion of of our Republic and rights over the past 30 years an the transformation of Conservatism from a principled stand against intrusive government to one of perpetual war abroad and police state establishment at home has made me adk the question above, especially after seeing the wailing and gnashing of teeth exhibited when a Conservative Chief Justice ruled in favor of the Conservative-generated Affordable Care Act.

"Fascism should be more appropriately called Corporatism since it is the converence of State and Corporate Power."---Benito Mussolini, founder of Modern Fascism

Actually The biggest problem over the last fifty years is the growing socialism from both parties.

The modern day extreme conservatives and GOP are the main Fascists. They are now with Citizens United bought and paid for by corporations who want to instill a corporate dictatorship of the country. All their efforts are to marginalize the middle class more in favor of the elite.

Holy Crapola Batman, can't anyone post a poll without the childish answer options?

Conservatives are few and far between these days. The hordes of neo-conservatives are very much fascist in their ways, but so too are the neo-liberals who have practically eradicated the true liberals.

Does modern liberalism=modern conservatism? Yes, and both of them are fascism wrapped up with a different ribbon.

Agreed. We seem to have lost the philosophy of Reason championed by Voltaire, Rousseau and the other philosophers of the French Liberal Enlightenment that was the basis of our original government.

Exactly. So much wisdom from the great thinkers of the 18th Century, European and American alike and collectively speaking we seem to want to ignore their genius.

Actually, let's look at some of the attributes of fascism. First, fascism involves government regulation of business, altho the business itself is left in private hands. This is what Obama did when he gave General Motors to the UAW, screwing private ownership (i.e. bondholders) in the process. Second, fascists also want to regulate behavior. Now that Obamacare is law, you will be penalized to the tune of $3000.00 per year if you DON'T buy health insurance. Now to me, it sure looks like modern PROGRESSIVES are the equivalent of fascists. Finally, who voted for unlimited abortions and death panels - mechanisms for eliminating society's undesirables???? Last time I looked, it was leftists, led by Obama, who famously voted that a tissue mass that survived an abortion should not be given medical care. Sounds like Nazi Germany to me......

What is the basic difference between government control of corporations and corporate control of government that we have now? the Mussolini quote talks of the convergence of BOTH. Considering the Obama admin's continuation of Bush-era policies favoring Corporations, as in this example,

    http://www.alternet.org/story...

The citizenry faces a bipartisan loss of sovereignty to unelected global corporate bureaucracies. If you want a glimpse of our collective futures, watch this:

It's stupid liberals like you that cause fights just to fight. I would prefer to live in harmony instead of calling each other fasicsts and socialists.
  • Ishmael Drachen 2012/07/04 04:50:09
    Ishmael
Then how do YOU define Corporate control of Government?
  • Drachen Ishmael 2012/07/04 16:59:43
    Drachen
I would use the term fascism. But what's wrong is that you are associating conservatism with fascism. Conservatives actually want LESS government than democrats.
  • Cyan9 2012/06/30 15:21:54
No. Fascists were more HUMANE than today's conservatives
    Cyan9
Why the loaded questions? There are good conservatives just like there are good liberals. Many of the policies advocated by the Republican Party are downright immoral and destructive but that doesn't make them nazis. It's as disingenuous as calling Democrats, socialists.
  • FeedFwd Cyan9 2012/07/01 03:05:41
    FeedFwd
Well almost. I don't know any conservatives who consider themselves fascists or want to be fascists. There are quite a few liberals, however, who do call themselves socialists and advocate socialism. Liberal politicians can't do that and get elected, but many liberals, especially in academia are quite open about being socialists.

The question and answers were framed in the SAME manner as roughly 80% of questions and polls posted by conservatives on these SAME pages. Sucks when the shoe's on the other foot doesn't it?

Because of a Supreme Court decision that decided that money was speech, corporations can now buy candidates to pass legislation beneficial to their industry. Big oil and gas and the banking industry have had Republican politicians in their pockets for years. As long as it cost so much money to run for office and win elections, politicians are going to have to have corporate donors. We need to have campaign finance reform and have publicly funded elections and get corporations and big business out of the election process. We need to get the best candidates into office not the best candidates money can buy. Republicans are doing the corporations bidding and deregulating industries which is bad for many communities, for the health of the people in those communities, and the environment.

First of all the SCOTUS did us all a favor as conservatives of one form or another by voting against our constitution. They have incited a war that will be brought right to your front door. Secondly Romney is a RINO, he will flip and flop from one side of an issue to the next in order to appease those that are a little miffed at that particular moment. He's spineless and shares most of the same views as obama. Vote for Mitt and get the same old $hit.

You evidently know more than the justices who voted on Obamacare. Congratulations on being the smartest person I know. From what I heard, before the decession, a bunch of constitutional scholars were questioned about it and something like 90% of them found the law constitutional. You may be allowing politics to cloud your thinking. The rest of your post is fairly right on.

Come on, it's all over the internet why Justice Roberts voted for Obamacare, he set it as a tax thereby requiring only a majority in congress to end it, and it gave Romney a lot more support...

What ever you say... a repeal might pass the house but it won't pass the senate and even if it did, don't you think Obama just might veto it.

They never approached the individual mandate as it stood. Roberts approached it from the taxation point which is the only way that any of this could have been found to be constitutional. It all reveals obama as the liar that he has already been known to be, but of course he has reiterated all of the thoughts. This has also emboldened those that may have been on the fence about whether or not to vote for him again. You know he's hurting when he goes to Paris to raise money for his re-election. Democrats unwilling to go to the convention to save their own butts.

Obama care, when all the truth comes out instead of the lies the right wing have been feeding the news media over that past 3 years, is going to help a lot of people. It is better than what we had and I think people are starting to realize that. I think it is also going to energise the base of the democratic party because now that they are able to get insurance, they are not going to let the Republicon party do anything to undo it.

Have you ever considered the possibility that the candidates are preselected by the process and the big donors to ensure continued corporate control? What did you think the Citizen's United v FEC SCOTUS decision was all about? Noam Chomsky called it "Manufacturing Consent".

If they vote for the conservatives that exist today, then they are extremists. Your best bet to get an old-time Republican, or one like Reagan, is to vote for a Democrat.

So who died and elected You to be the Pidgen grammar police? Since the language was first formulated as a trade language in the Far East and Pacific and really had no specific grammar or spelling. So what's next? You going to favor us all with a doctoral dissertation on the grammar of Indian Sign Language?

Who Died? A language evolved and became more complex. That's how it works otherwise they die out.

Lot's of languages matured and were enriched by trade. That's some revelation?
