Of course he does. That is what he is good at, cutting jobs and getting paid well for it. Well, that and changing his stance from one day to the next.

Many republicans want to continue to cut funds for public schools and institute the voucher system. That way, those that send their kids to elite (or just a private or christian) schools can pay less money for tuition. I believe that doing this will begin the ending of the public school system. It's fine for rich business people to continue to make more money than most of us can even imagine but, heaven forbid, let's not pay teachers, firefighters or police officers more money. (I make about 20,000 less than I did when I was in advertising sales). I'm not complaining about that because I wanted to go into teaching and have loved (almost) every minute, but I still make a first years' teachers salary.

It's really hard to say because Obama wanted to increase the numbers and even did a campaign taking photo's with the police he was going to help provide with more backup and in many places, the money just wasn't there so they had to make cuts.

This is one of those areas where the state and local communities are more at fault as most accepted the stimulus which was for investment but instead, all they did was keep paying the bills like normal. There were almost no efforts to reduce fraud or to increase public efforts to rebuild communities... no new schools, no new infrastructure, no new police officers, no new firefighters... they just spent the money to pay the bills like normal.

The federal government cannot be held accountable for this except in that Obama gave the money to the states "UNCONDITIONALLY" where FDR made conditions and told the states they couldn't get federal help unless they spent the money for specific purposes.

If Mitt Romney becomes President, he really would not have any control over cutting jobs for firefighters and police which I think the author of this topic misunderstands in relation to the power the President has as Obama isn't responsible for what's done by the states and local communities where local and state leaders control what happens.

    Wha...

What Romney did as Governor of Massachusetts falls under this umbrella because as a Governor, he directly controlled such resources but as President... he would not.have such power as President.

For three years, states were paying teacher salaries but they were not investing to build new schools or anything else related to improving education. So when the stimulus ran out and the economy had not improved... what happened?

What happened is that hundreds or even thousands of teachers were laid off, retired or fired because there wasn't enough money to pay their salaries. School classrooms were increased and the media did not report on something very important... there was no decrease in grade scores even where classroooms almost doubled in size.

Now why would the media not talk about this? Because for decades they have been promoting that smaller classrooms would produce higher gpa's and yet, this past year reveals that is not the case. It's not the size of the classrooms that determine gpa, it's the willingness of the teacher to do their job and not use their desk and a wall between them and their students.

This past year has been very enlightening about many things because as state and local governments were forced to cut billions from state budgets, a lot of fat was trimmed and a lot of muscle... in other words, some communities cut waste but a lot of communities also cut needed programs and personnel they needed because they did not cut the fat for various reasons with the lead reason being corruption and incompetence.

So Romney will not have such power as President to determine any of these scenarios where teachers, police or firefighters get fired. It will entirely be the state and local governments... all Romney would determine is federal funds for these matters and even there it's Congress that plays the more important role.

If you mean does he want the states and local communities to cut the number of civil servants employed by the country... you would have to ask if Obama wanted that since under him it did happen. Thus, you can't fault Romney if it happens unless you equally fault Obama for allowing it to happen under his watch and neither Obama or Romney will possess that power as President.

Since I cannot bring up the video, I cannot comment on this with any authority. But I can give an opinon as to what I think this is about.
I do not believe, that, Mitt Romney wants to just arbitrarily start firing Policemen, firemen, teachers, etc. I think he wants to cancel the rules that say they cannot be fired for not doing their jobs. Or anybody else for that matter. Office workers, ie., Welfare offices, City Halls, Court House, unemployment offices. So many places that there are people working, or I should say, drawing a paycheck, and doing as little as possible, that need to be addressed. People whom, you and I pay their wages, for them to sit and basically do nothing. IMO!!!

No is a better reply for me.... liberal media tries to paint any possible negative view
of Mitt.... but it will not work.... Mitt is a smart man.... 180 from who voters have now
in the W.H. voters will put a new solid business man in the W.H. and let him tackle
the problems facing Amierca.... clearly current administration's record reveals a
need for change we can believe in..... November will end some of the pain...bark

I am with you Mr Dog. It will be refreshing to have someone in the WH that actually knows what he is doing in the Business world, knows how to TRIM expenses, instead of making more. Already has his own money so isn't there to look for ways to line his own pockets. And can get this Country back on track.
You know, when Romney was Governor of Mass, he brought their Credit rating UP, not down like Obama did to the US!!!

Some of the Ron Paul supporters are worse than Obama supporters about spreading untruths about Romney. It is frustrating. But I will also continue to keep setting them straight wherever I can. They can't seem to understand that when they vote for RP, they are giving their vote TO Obama.

A lot of pressure would be put on Romney by his own party to hold down and eliminate social programs and he would. Personally I cannot see a Republican president going into federal debt to pay police nor firemen which they would consider to be the job of the state involved.

What I hate about the Republicans and Tea Party is that they portray the democratic party as being all black and portray the democrats as non church going and as much atheists who would not defend their home country even if it was being taken over by an enemy. I fought in Vietnam in the 60's and I am sure as hell not black, non believern nor non church going and I would defend my country.

I am sorry, but you are wrong about your idea that the Tea Party has portrayed Democrats as such bad people. The Tea Party is made up of Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Blacks, Whites, Browns, Olives,Church goers, non-church-goers. And they are all against what is being done to the American people by a govt that is working mainly for their own agenda.!!!
