Does mainstream Islam endorse violence?

I was under the dellusion christians used the whole book. Considering how often clergyman, and sodahead christians alike have quoted, and used the old testament.
And my christian education that used both parts.
Oh, and my christain friends and relative.
And the whole Vatican-sermons i've heard.
So that's Anglicans, general Catholocism that do.
So yes, i'm assuming Christians use the whole bible, after all they've chopped out all the bits you don't need several dozen times throughout history.

My intent isn't to be disrespectful, and i really hate religious arguments because they tend to be pointless, no realistic endgame. I just make observations.
The christian faith chose to retain almost all the old testement, it's logical that if they did that, they also follow it. Additionally i've had a lot of christians quoting it against me, and it includes lots of important bits like the 10 commandments.

The Old Testament is Jewish history and law. In what is being talked about right now, New Testament does not speak of violence and even says not to be violent. They are not ignoring parts. Christians are not Jews and Jewish history is just history. Yet for Christians Jewish history and Jewish law is meaningful because it does talk about the coming messiah. which was Jewish. He fulfilled the law and we are saved by grace not the law like the Jews believe and follow. It is not ignored because it isn't liked.

i suppose it depends on how you define the term "mainstream". If by "mainstream" you mean "as practiced in middle eastern countries like Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, and so on, the answer would seem to be "yes".

if by "mainstream" you mean "as practiced by the majority of American muslims" i'd say "no".
