Does Eric Holder really care about voter ID in Texas?

Artist 2012/07/13 14:40:00
During his speech on Tuesday to the NAACP Eric Holder vilified the Texas law requiring voter identification as another attempt to prevent blacks from voting.

I don't know about you but I'm getting real tired of hearing from the left how states should not be allowed to enforce or require voter ID during elections. I've had mine for 37 years...it's called a drivers license. Don't black people have to have an ID to cash a check or deposit a check? Holder lost his bid to cancel a purge of voter registrations in Florida. That purge found Florida had over 25,000 dead people still on it's voter rolls. Isn't it odd that an Attorney General should only support one or two groups of people in this country and not everyone? Blacks and dead people?

So if I understand Mr. Holder, all 50 states (or 57 according to obama) should not require personal identification for elections because it would cause an undue burden for poor and elderly black people.
What a crock!

He might as well have said "It's not fair that you are taking away our right to commit voter fraud!"
You!

Amazing ID's had to be shown to get to see him and Michelle at something or other she did, but they think you don't need one to vote, but you do to see them. How crazy is that?????????

Why is Holder wasting taxpayer monies on this issue. In April of 2008 the Supreme court upheld the same law in Indiana. The Supreme Court ruled that states can require voters to produce photo identification without violating their constitutional rights.

In a splintered 6-3 ruling, the court upheld Indiana's strict photo ID requirement, which Democrats and civil rights groups said would deter poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots. Its backers said it was needed to prevent fraud.

It was the most important voting rights case.

The law "is amply justified by the valid interest in protecting 'the integrity and reliability of the electoral process,'" Justice John Paul Stevens said in an opinion that was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Anthony Kennedy. Stevens, one of our Liberal Judges wrote the opinion.

So if the Supreme Court already ruled 4 years ago, why is Holder doing this. Does he really believe he has more authority and power than the Supreme Court?

When faced with the inability to give the illegal’s amnesty; they simply want to encourage them to vote.

Showing ID to vote is NOT a civil rights issue. I'm sorry. Niether is it a "poll tax". All of the States that are trying to pass a law for the picture ID or already have the law enforced make obtaining one free to the public.
Now, the arguement becomes the cost of obtaining the materials needed for the ID. However, since this is the "poorest of the poor" that we are looking at, let's take a look at what this class would need an ID for in order to obtain gov't assistance with other aspects of their lives. A person would need valid ID for:
    1. Getting welfare in the US
    2. Obtaining food stamps in the US
    3. Obtaining public housing in the US
Hmmmm....it wouldn't be too much to think that a majority of this population already has some sort of ID with them or has enough (social security card--free, Birth Certificate, etc) that it would not cost them a dime to get the Photo ID that would be necessary to vote in their State.

Devil's in the details and impact of voter ID laws and the possible gain vs the possible disenfranchisement. Any reputable research into voter fraud has shown extremely low levels of voter fraud and research has also shown irrefutable evidence that low income and elderly US citizen voters are much more likely to not currently possess government issued photo ID... Now if you proposed a program to issue government issued photo ID to all citizens conveniently and at no cost to the individuals that's cool, but it's also a lot of money to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Eric Holder only cares about getting a method for non-citizens to vote. I do not know how you live in America without ID and by the way you needed TWO forms of ID to attend a speech Holder recently gave.

This whole thing of Holder suing states over voter I.D. requirements is a set up by him and Obama. It is setting the stage for a contested election should Obama lose leaving Obama in control indefinitely until a "thorough" investigation can take place. Obama has stacked the SCOTUS, DOJ, and his Czar positions with like minded Marxist.

If we don't get Obama and Holder out in November it may well be a very long time before another presidential election.

Liberals simply cannot resist skin color as a reason for everything. They brought a gal from Texas to DC to testify that she simply did not have time to get a state ID card. She has time to go to DC to testify that she doesn't have a couple hours to get an ID in Texas.

If the requirement was only being placed on poor and elderly black people, then there would be an issue and he would have my full support. I don't understand, and you will have a hard time explaining to me, how it is any harder on poor and elderly blacks than it is on anybody that is poor or elderly. If the DNC, or anybody else for that matter, is truly concerned about voters being disenfranchised by an ID to vote requirement, they are free to organize drives to get folks where they need to go to get their ID. At age 43 I had to show ID to get a bottle of beer at a 7/11 store. There are so many things in everyday life that are far less important than voting, yet they require you to produce valid identification. I don't even know how folks get by without ID.

He's a fool. Doesn't he know that in some states, it's required to have a state ID to get welfare benefits?

I don't think he's a fool but he's definitely a liar, F&F proved that. The fools are the members of the racist groups NAACP, the Black Caucasus and any other pro-African American anti-white group that believes Holder.

you do have a point. lol

i just looked up requirements for government benefits, SSI (including disability), in addition to welfare all require photo identification...so poor/disabled people have to have an ID to get government money. His logic is invalid. He just butthurt dead people won't be able to keep his toadies in office.

The simple answer is having either mobile ID centers or like they do with voter registration have people bussed into existing centers and give them free ID's with proof of citizenship if they are that poor

Actually, I believe we should go back to only being able to vote on election day. Extended voting days opens the door to more corruption. Make presidential election day a holiday and if you bring back your I voted sticker or receipt you get paid for the day. And everyone needs to have proper ID. It is not about disenfrancment, it is about upholding the laws of America.
