In the 18 months the 112 th Congress has been sworn in, the House has introduced 60 bills to rename post offices. Thirty-eight have passed the House and 26 have become law. During those 18 months, the House has produced 151 laws, 17 percent of which have been to rename post offices, according to Congressional Democrats.

Not a single bill has come to the House floor aimed at reforming a Postal Service, which is bleeding billions of dollars because of Congressional mandates.

Today the United States Postal Service will default on a Congressional mandate to pay $5.5 billion to "prefund" health benefits for future retirees. On Friday, House of Representatives will leave town for a five week summer vacation. There is no plan to take up postal reform before that summer recess.

It's all just S-O-S Government gridlock. The Senate bill sent to the House was rejected. The Senate has already said they will reject any House plan that differs from theirs.

Rep. Darrell Issa, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on the $300 Billion Senate Bailout

“While the Postal Service is actually trying to shutter some facilities it does not need, the Senate bill forces the Postal Service to keep over one hundred excess postal facilities open at a cost of $900 million per year. Worst of all, the Senate bill does not stop the financial collapse of USPS, but only delays it for two years, at best, when reforms will only be more painful. The Senate’s approach is wholly unacceptable.”

A competing House bill allows the postmaster to cut services, close offices raise fees and force existing postal employees to pay a greater share of their own retirement. This bill will never get through the Senate because they want to retain control and not let the PMG have that power. Reid had already made note of this.

A temporary fix may happen but I doubt anything substantial will until after the elections. Even then, only if the Republicans get control of both branches. Otherwise we will play this game for another four years.

Mail service out my way is great. In fact, I get my mail every day, delivered right to my mailbox. Now, what is your complaint?

You elected these "reformers", these "Tea Baggers" and "Libertarians", these "Conservative Patriots" who promised to get right in there and make things right for you. Are you disappointed? They renamed the Post Office in Clear Creek, Co., and
Sunshine, Tenn., which took a lot of guts and debate among worthy opponents. I've been
around politicts for more than half a century and heard the boasts and braggadocio more times than I've had my hair cut. Same old same old nonsense.

Post Office is the delivery service for corporations who flood the agency with literally billions of pieces of trash mail every month, to deliver for a fee that covers only about 25% of the costs to handle the junk. Want to make PO viable, in fact wildly profitable? Easy,
just have corporations pay the full cost of the trash they send to your house every day.

You have to understand that our political leaders do things, mandate things that they can live with. Not things that you personally, you the individual can live with.
Political leaders, both democrat and republican have the same goals, and those goals are Pro-Foreign Nations, not Pro-America !!!
Until the American people vote for a party that want's to put the decision making back into the hands of the people who actually live in America, we will see mandates that we don't want or like, and that's tough crap for Americans, because we the people no longer make the decisions that affect our lives, the government does.
This is why I'm with the Green Party, because the Green Party wants to take the power away from the federal government and put it back in the hands of the American people.
The way America was started, where local city halls made decisions of every community, for the people of that community, and not a federal cookie-cutter mandate for all states to follow.
Because the Green Party knows that communities, and people are not all the same, so why should someone who doesn't even live in your community make decisions about your community.
You want something different, something better than what your getting???
    Vote for the Green Party.

Well this is true, but if you look at the Green Party platform itself it generally involves the use of government. However since I go by individual and not party, if a Green Party candidate had a limited government policy, I would probably vote for that person.

    The use of government ?????
How else would you go about running a nation????
The Green Party platform seeks to rebuild the government as we now know it, and turn it into something that people want, that people have a voice in. And to change the decisions back to local government, like your City Hall use to do, but as you can see most city halls are vacant and abandoned property anymore because the federal government has taken over those decisions that local people use to make.
The Green Party seeks to return America back to it's roots with local government of the people. People making decisions about their community they live in, instead of a federal cookie-cutter mandate all communities across America must follow no matter how different they are.
The Green Party knows that communities as people are not all the same, and have different needs.
Yes we would use the government to change America into something never before done, because the Green Party would be that government of the people.
Not like it is now where the government is for the government, not the people.
Ideologies only count for a starting point, the rest is up to the people who actually make it work!
  • kir Picasso... 2012/08/02 14:16:39

A government powerful enough to tell people what to do and what not to do is a government powerful enough to suppress freedom. I am not strictly opposed to government, but indeed the power if any needs to be held at the local level. A powerful federal government is a constant threat to our freedom.

Yupp, well now there are two of us that think so, just 20 million to go and we might have something worth celebrating about.
Their decision to go to a federal government located Washington D.C. was the biggest mistake they could have ever made, because we the people lost much when that happened, and have ever since.

Congress doesn't give a damn about the population. It couldn't be more apparent. They would rather sit around discussing who to name post offices after than come up with solutions to the economic problems we all face.

Other than rag on and on about Planned Parenthood, the House has been busy with the Post Office names and naming parks and such. Oh, they have also sent 20-30 " jobs bills" to the Senate. None are really jobs bills. Almost all have something to do with Obamacare, so they never go anywhere. So they change a few words and try again pushing it off as a jobs bill. Harry Reid finally asked that they send a " Stand Alone" jobs bill. In other words, about jobs and nothing else. No more "jobs bills" came from the House.

The worthless Republican House. All they do is take up space.
