Do you think welfare recipients should have to pass a drug test to receive their tax-payer supported welfare check?

You!

I work in an Industry that requires passing a drug test on a random basis and at the time of being hired. It's only fair they pass a drug test to receive a welfare check , if I got to pass one to give it to them.

Any person on this poll that does not support this is either NOT paying into the system OR is a doper living off the system.
Common sense dictates if your a taxpayer paying for this with your hard earned money you simply cant have a problem with wanting to see its not misused or abused and those that benifit are held accountable.
It really is that simple and clear.

I know several people (including a relative) that use their welfare and social security checks to stay drunk and coked up until the money is gone then go to the county for the emergency rent payment.

It is suppose to be used to get a person on their feet.
If the person is an active addict the check will just keep them stuck where they are.
If they are not an addict they can stay drug free until they are back on their feet and can pay for their substances with money they earned.

You feel that it's "insult to injury", to expect the people who haven't *WORKED* for the money, to be expected to pass the same drug test as the person(s) the welfare money was *TAKEN FROM*?
  • Brosia Marvelo... 2012/07/04 04:22:39
    Brosia
It is an insult to those that do work but need help, especially since I already take a test randomly for work.
  • Marvelo... Brosia 2012/07/04 04:51:23

And exactly why would it be an insult to you, to qualify to get the "Free Money" you *NEED*, by doing the exact same thing as you do for the job where you must also *WORK* to get money?

I've *NEVER* had *ANY* concerns about taking a drug test, especially if it was to get a *FAVOR* that I had not earned.

Maybe you could think of it, as being paid 10X what you make at work, just to pee in a cup.
  • Brosia Marvelo... 2012/07/04 20:29:15
    Brosia
But it is not 10X what I make. It is an insult to assume that everyone that needs help is on drugs. Sure, some are, but the vast majority are not. And, I would be expected to pay for the one to get welfare, and how am I supposed to afford it when I need welfare to feed my kids?
  • Marvelo... Brosia 2012/07/05 00:05:50
    Marvelous Wildfire
The majority of people that "need help", need the help because of making poor choices and poor sense of priority. (Not all, but the majority.)

How much do you make for that 10-20 minutes to get welfare?
You make *MORE* than that, and you need help?

As I understand it, you only pay for the test if you fail it.
  • Brosia Marvelo... 2012/07/06 02:21:32
    Brosia
No, the places that do the tests require up front payment, you get reimbursed if you pass. This means that the initial assumption is that you are on drugs.
  • Marvelo... Brosia 2012/07/06 04:21:34
    Marvelous Wildfire
So you *DO* get reimbursed if you pass?
Do you have to go in, to apply for a welfare payment?
    So what's the issue?
You are begging a favor, you should be willing to accept a little inconvenience to get what you need.

OR, if it is simply "too insulting" don't take the welfare money.
  • Brosia Marvelo... 2012/07/06 04:38:16
    Brosia
You have never needed help before have you? It is embarrassing and insulting to ask for help. Doubly so when they then insinuate that you are a drug user, and that is why you need help.

    But I *HAVE*!
I would bet, that you couldn't begin to grasp what I've had to do, just to survive.
Have you ever had to eat biscuits and gravy for breakfast, hoecakes for lunch and pancakes for dinner . . . for over 6 months? I have.
Ever had a neighbor's horse die of colic, and was GREATFUL that they let you *EAT* that horse after you had put it down? I have!
You ever work 106 schedualed hours a week, so you wouldn't have to beg money from a welfare office, because "It is embarrassing and insulting to ask for help"? I have!

That's why something as insignificant as requiring a drug test, means nothing to me.

This sounds like a good idea, but I don't think it would work. 1. Some checks are automatically deposited, so how could a person get tested first? 2. A person could test clean, get the check, cash it and then do drugs. What good is that? 3. Some people are too ill or too old to "go out" and get tested. Adding another burden to their life sounds a bit cruel to me. ...... 4. And who's going to watch the baby while mom or pop goes for the test? .......

If they dont want to be responsible that is their business..But I am not going to become there ENABLER so they can continue their drug use. That is the worst thing you can do to people. You would have to care nothing about their future to let them carry on...You ought to be ashamed ..

  • Doc Neutron... 2012/06/27 00:27:54

No, the smiley face was for a different reason.
Let me ask you this, do you really think that one person can get another person off drugs?

Or does that decision ultimately have to come from the junkie?
  • Neutron... Doc 2012/06/27 13:05:54

Are we still talking about the smiley face?

If we are, then the reason is not because I think I'm smart, because I don't.

If you want to know the reason for the smiley face, you could just ask me.

but meanwhile, could you answer my questions, please?

welfare is not a right and neither is smoking pot. I do not give a damn what others do as long a it does not negatively affect me and taking money from me and my children definately negatively affect me and my local community where I would have spent in my local community. They should be looking for a job to stop abusing the tax payers and if they can't pass a drug test they can't get a job. Them smoking pot is a blatant disregard for those that pay taxes and they are basically saying, screw you, I am not even going to try to find a job, I am going to steal from you and your family as much as I can and as long as I can.
