Do you think welfare recipients should have to pass a drug test to receive their tax-payer supported welfare check?

Except that's not the two percent destroying our country and economy. One need look to the opposite end of the income spectrum for such behavior. Corporate welfare dwarfs the baby mama welfare but as long as the fed continues to (successfully) blame the little guy, the government's intent of keeping us at each others' throats instead of focusing on the real problem (the government) will succeed via the "little guy welfare abuse" propaganda.

You've drank the coolaid. Corporate "welfare" just simply means they get a break on what they've paid. In absolutely no logical discussion on Earth will you find someone presenting numbers that support your assumption. It just doesn't happen. Now, there are those evil, evil, non-profits like Catholic Charities, Red Cross, and other corporations that do receive more in government income than they pay in taxes, but for the most part, corporations are taxed a much higher percentage than someone on welfare. You want to do the math? What's 30% of $1 versus 0% of $10,000?

Stop listening to Obama, he's wrecking this country based on nothing but socialist dogma. The people that pay taxes aren't the ones causing our credit ratings to decline for the first time in the history of mankind. And if you don't believe me, go ask Obama. It will only cost you $30,000 to get an invite. The little guy need not apply. Those paying the taxes that support the little guy will be the only ones there.

That's interesting, especially when compared to the evil 1% that's supposedly ruining the country.

Sure they do, but I believe it is a violation of my civil rights. It is a cash grab for the drug testing industry.

So let them grab. Would you rather spend billions of dollars yearly so the scammers, drug addicts and bums who have never worked a day in their lives can continue to sponge off the taxpayer or pay millions to the drug testing companies so that the ones gaming the system can be stopped? Unless you are one of those 3, then I think you would choose the latter. If you think the drug testing firms will make THAT much money from this, I have a tip as to what stock you should buy.

Do bother me one bit, I don't use that junk. The world is messed up enough without it so why try to mess it up more.

The overwhelming majority of welfare recipients are where they are, *NOT* from making one or two poor choices, but because of making stupid life choices on a consistent basis.

I've seen too many recipients abuse welfare. Drugs, steaks, but the one that bugs me the most are those girls who get pregnant to please their boyfriend and supply him with welfare money that should be caring for the baby. Really bad news!!!!!,

I would say both. While they are receiving checks from the government, they should subject themselves to drug testing AND do work for the city or state. Walking along the road for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week picking up trash, wiping off road signs, cleaning up road kills. You don't want to do that, then take steps to better your situation.

although I agree that those of us on the system should have to pass a drug test and do community work, I personally would be unable to do what you propose to be fair work...save stuff like that for prison community service. But I would gladly work for my benefits using my skills around any government or public office , I have a degree in business admin and human resources, why not put that to work...or better yet hire me so i can get off the damn system!

Just don't let them buy anything nice with it. Basic things only. Don't give them money, give them vouchers, like ration books.

They would then trade those ration books for drugs, etc...

That's why my idea is for them to almost give shops IOU's, then they send that to the government who pays for it if it's allowed, so they couldn't buy anything else with it...

They could find ways around, but this system would make it very hard work to do it, and we know benefit whores shy from hard work... Unless we just give them food and rubbish housing...

Sometimes I think they should be put into camps. Not by force, but if they want to live of the taxpayer dime, then they have the choice to live in the camp.

Hmm, I don't think so... An alternative idea is that there are centres set up that anyone can get a meal, clothes or a bed to sleep in, but the food's bland and boring, the clothes are shapeless and grey, and the beds are uncomfortable, and have no benefits. I think that benefits should be high, like around £20,000 pa for two months, then after that take it right down.
