Do you think welfare recipients should have to pass a drug test to receive their tax-payer supported welfare check?

I work in an Industry that requires passing a drug test on a random basis and at the time of being hired. It's only fair they pass a drug test to receive a welfare check , if I got to pass one to give it to them.

Any person on this poll that does not support this is either NOT paying into the system OR is a doper living off the system.
Common sense dictates if your a taxpayer paying for this with your hard earned money you simply cant have a problem with wanting to see its not misused or abused and those that benifit are held accountable.
It really is that simple and clear.

Definitely, YES. I know a young gal who's on welfare due to her depression caused by crack cocaine. What the hell's wrong with the laws in this country? Become a drug addict, ruin your mind, and get COMPENSATED for it??

Yes. I may support welfare but I think it needs to be highly regulated and part of that is to make sure the money isn't being wasted or used illegally.

Besides being an invasion of privacy, it is counter productive In all cases that drug testing was used the a small amount of people failed and the saveings of cutting them was not even near the cost of testing everyone

"It's only fair they pass a drug test to receive a welfare chec"

Seeing as this idea is always posed by someone on the right it always amuses me since all I normal hear is small government, no nanny, cut spending, no culture of envy etc.
But suddenly it's OK to loose money searching a persons urine because you had to do it

why not figh for your privacy not to take someone else s?

    This intrest me
You list yourself as a libertarian, which makes you the first libertarian I've met who would want to spend tax monry to institute a law that would increse goverment power, and decress your privacy to see if if someone is doing a substance that most Libertarians think shouls be legal anyway, but even more striking
You are the only American Libertarian I've met who would call themselves a lefty

My views are both liberal but also libertarian, it is quite possible. I simply believe that if I have to take one to earn the money, they should have to take one to receive it without doing anything. My view on this comes from actual experience though(With people receiving welfare), and animosity towards people who abuse welfare constantly. My experiences definitely makes me biased. Where I come from, I have never encountered anyone (knowingly) who was on welfare who did not have their nails done with acrylic, died hair, cable TV, and children running around everywhere. You have no idea how many people I know who buy effing SUSHI with their food stamps and sell the rest to get their nails filled while their children eat nothing but fast food. (And yes, thy are all on drugs)

make that two. i'm a libertarian and i also support this.you state one of your reasons is that it cost more then it saves. with this i disagree.i do so because we can't measure how many didn't apply because they knew they would flunk a drug test. or how many dropped out so they would not have to take the drug test. i think when you add these people in with the ones who take it and flunk the program becomes more then cost effective.

I have known people on welfare that had a new car and big screen TV, what cracked me up was their kids were in rags and they complained that they didn't have enough money to feed them.

You only think this because Scott in FL is pushing it because he owns major shares in the corporations that administer the drug tests.

When rightwingers unethically capitalize and abuse their power and connections- the nutjobs call it "free enterprise"!
