Do you think welfare recipients should have to pass a drug test to receive their tax-payer supported welfare check?

I work in an Industry that requires passing a drug test on a random basis and at the time of being hired. It's only fair they pass a drug test to receive a welfare check , if I got to pass one to give it to them.

Any person on this poll that does not support this is either NOT paying into the system OR is a doper living off the system.
Common sense dictates if your a taxpayer paying for this with your hard earned money you simply cant have a problem with wanting to see its not misused or abused and those that benifit are held accountable.
It really is that simple and clear.

Then you are ok for testing them for alcohol, tobacco, trans-fats... Where do you draw the line?

I've worked hard and paid taxes almost all of my adult life, some years more than others. For most of the employment I've ever had, I also had to pass a drug test. I currently work two types of jobs for six different part time employers and had to pass a drug test for all but two of them when starting out. I'm sure that if I were to give reason to doubt me, I'd have to pass drug tests with them. I fully expected to have to render a drug test for all of them.

I know that most of the people whom I serve however are on welfare. Two of the towns have over 80% on welfare, another not much better. My town is about 14% unemployed. Yes, if money is being taken out of my paycheck to "give" to them, then they ought to have to pass a drug test.

Thank you SK, your points are well made. I'll not argue against them.

Quite honestly, I think that the matter is more an issue of people, many of whom have to undergo drug testing, resenting that their money is taken from them to give to people on welfare while the person on welfare is not "accountable" to anybody. I do believe though that if the welfare recipients had to be drug tested to receive the benefits, some would resent it less. Others I doubt it would change a thing.

If you think that we should test farmers and ranchers in order to provide them subsidies I'll not argue with that. Myself, I'd rather that we did away with the subsidies. I didn't get any subsidy when I started up and operated my construction business. My business moved on my skills, my integrity and the local economy. While there were lean months in there, I never starved.

I'm in a new profession now. While it may not pay as well day to day, it is a lot easier on my body. If I can be hired on full time, it would exceed what I had hoped for.

    ;-)

ABSOLUTELY ! - It Only Makes Sense .

If I have to Pass A Drug Test in order to " GET " a job ? If I have to Pass A Random Drug Test in order to " KEEP THAT JOB " ? ......... Why In The World Should ANYBODY Taking Money ( paid for by ME , the tax payer ) Be Any Different ?

" IF " you are in the business of being supported by the state ( ME ! ) , then I good reason to have the assurance that it is not wasted on drugs .

No, unless it was used to require mandatory treatment for drug addiction. To use it as a punishment would be counterproductive. The reason for workplace drug testing is for health and safety. That doesn't apply for welfare benefits.

I'm not sure what you're talking, but if you think I need to be tested, don't bother. Been there, done that, as part of my job. The hardest drug I use is fermented grape juice.

    HELL YES....

    Drug AND Alcohol testing .

Welfare is ONE YEAR...while you work at a job WE decide you will do .

After ONE YEAR.. you get a job and pay taxes like the rest of us . Your outlook will change once the government TAKES your tax money and gives it away .

who's spending the money on drugs please?
in Florida [notorious Florida which is in the news all too often and not in a good way] did it. and caught 2%.

this "money saving measure" ended up costing the state [that's my tax money] millions of dollars. and who got that money? ol Rick Scott's cronies. he was in the medical field before running for governor - - so guess where most of the donations to his campaign came from? it was pay-off time. and he paid. and so did we.
