Karen Klein, Bullied Bus Monitor, Gets Apologies from Kids

Karen Klein

At least three of the students who were seen taunting school bus monitor Karen Klein on a viral video have issued statements of apology to the 68-year-old grandmother.

"I am so sorry for the way I treated you," one of the students,
identified only as "Josh," said in a statement issued by police Thursday
to Anderson Cooper 360.
"When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that.
I am sorry for being so mean and I will never treat anyone this way
again."

Another student, identified as "Wesley," also issued an apology,
writing: "I feel really bad about what I did. I wish I had never done
those things. If that had happened to someone in my family, like my
mother or grandmother, I would be really mad at the people who did that
to them."

According to CBS News, the boys in the video, and their families, have received death threats.

The mother of "Wesley" also issued a statement to Anderson Cooper 360,
which reads in part: "I cannot even tell you how badly I feel. I am
deeply sorry for what my son did. … I am embarrassed, angry and sad
about the awful way he treated you."

As part of the outpouring of support for Klein, a fundraiser
was started with the goal of collecting $5,000, to give her a "dream
vacation." As of Thursday evening, donations had surpassed $440,000.
(And her video has been seen by 3.7 million people, as of Friday
morning).

Klein's reaction to the overwhelming support? As she told NBC News, "I get chills."

I really don't know, but if they only issued letters of apologies, then, no that doesn't cut it. They need to apologize to her in person, and not read her some statement. They need to do something - work around her house, stand on the street corner with a sign that says "I bullied an elderly lady', work at a homeless shelter, anything that will teach them that their actions have consequences, and a price to be paid for acting like an idiot - heaven knows we want our kids to grow up being responsible, caring, giving members of society - not politicans.

They didn't learn anything. Yea they are sorry they got caught and sorry they put their family in danger. Death threats? Come on people. I still think they should do time in juvy and pay fines. The money for the fines should go for this poor woman's vacation. I would have beat the hell out of my kids if it were them.

IF my kid ever did something like this, you better believe you'd see me on YT next for being arrested for beating their ass. No, I don't think they are sorry & no I don't think they have learned a lesson. Their "apologies" sound like repeated words of what was said to them by their parents. Which btw, they should have done in public. They humiliated her in public, they should have to apologize in the same manner!

I don't think they have really learned anything from it. Like someone said below "they just got caught doing it"

And although it was a despicable things these kids did to her, on and other note; do you think if I could get some punks out there to cuss and call me names that I could post it on a video and it were to go viral, that I could get almost a half a million dollars....I mean really !.....A kid cries because his favorite asinine football team has lost, it goes viral and money just flows into him, a baby farts the powder off his rear end and the video goes viral...money just falls out of the sky to him, a dog barks and it sound like it said "i love you" and money just floods to it's home......I mean what the heck people !!!

What are we doing and what are children learning from 'This stupidness'

That you can just do anything so stupid and shallow that if one just post it on youtube you will become a millionaire over night.

I'm not saying here that this woman shouldn't be compensated for what these kids have done to her, she does deserve some happiness in her life.

But what if anything will these kids have learned from it? Nothing.

The women maybe should have sued the kids parents for defamation of character or something where a real lesson would have been lear...

But what if anything will these kids have learned from it? Nothing.

The women maybe should have sued the kids parents for defamation of character or something where a real lesson would have been learned from it, like for the parents of these children, they will learn to "Teach their children real respect towards others" for the kids who did this "If I do something real stupid, I may get locked up, I may lose money, I will never be respected, It really isn't cool to be unkind to others" and so on.

Heck all they sure know now is that "Well, if I do something stupid, crazy or just plain shallow and get it on a video, it will go "Viral" and I'll get rich"

What sheer patheticness a viral video is.

Just look at the video's, don't send in money over a baby farting powder out of it's butt or because a dog happens to bark the star spangled banner. Is anyone sending you tons of money because you are going through life with everyday normal things happening to you.

    I mean "Get Real"

We must remember we are talking about children ... with all the media attention I think they have learned their lesson. I think their parents need a lesson in parenting.... our kids are a reflection of their parents.

13 year olds are not "kids." They are way beyond the age of reason. They are potential, violent criminals. Their threats and bullying is exactly what would cause one of their peers commit suicide if they had done that to a classmate. Pictures of them in fifty years should be posted around that school until they get the message that they too will get old and heavy some day. They also should have to walk to school for a year since they don't know how to behave on the school bus.

Hey walking to school could be a part of their punishment but I do think that 13 year olds are kids ... These children have to be punish for their bad actions and I am hopeful with proper discipline and instruction with compassion these kids will learn their lesson ... they are our future!

I agree w/everything you say except that a 13 yr. old is not a kid. If not a kid then what? They aren't an adult, as much as kids at that age may think they are.

Depending on the home atmosphere, they are adults in the making, not kids any longer. More is to be expected of them and much more has to be taught. Where would they get the idea that that kind of behavior is acceptable. There is great parental responsibility here along with a demand of responsibility from those young adults. For the record, anyone who threatens these people are just, if not more responsible for bullying as much as those young adults did to the bus monitor.

Phone calls and death threats to the young adults who did this horrendous deed. Those who would take that kind of action against the families of these wayward students are guilty of even worse behavior than was originally done.

Although issuing letters of apology is a nice sentiment, If i were their mother i would humiliate them by makeing them formally appologize to her in Person and they would be grounded, without phone, computer,tv , or extracuricular activity for a MONTH.

The Bus monitor only received these apologies because the parents do not want to get sued. Their actions are on the web to see their total guilt. I say everyone of these parents needs to feel pain sue them anyway!

It's too easy these days to act like a little turd then ask for forgiveness (wink, wink). What's hard, it seems, is real parenting, because these kids lack that.

Those brats should be banned from all school buses for the next year...if the punishment were to affect the parents then "they" might just learn.. because most kids learn their behavior from their parents...

It sounds like some of the children definitely learned their lesson. Karen is a remarkable woman in her ability to understand their actions and act in a forgiving way. Hopefully all of these children will go on to do wonderful things in their lives.

They "issued statements"?????? How nice - no face to face apology, not a word of why they might do to help this lady in the future such as paint her house, mow her yard etc., and what about punishment for the actions - any of those??

No nothing sincere is going on -

I don't know if their apologies are sincere or if they are saying what their parents or others expect or told them to say. Maybe lesson learned not to have such behaviour while cameras are running. Maybe if they saw member of their family being treated in such a way might teach them but of course that wouldn't be a right thing to do.
